US Filmmaker Shows Film and Reaches Out to Dutch Youth
January 30 - U.S. filmmaker Jeremy Xido showed his film, Death Metal Angola, at the Rotterdam International Film Festival to a packed theater, and reached out to high school students in Rotterdam.
The well-reviewed documentary focuses on a woman’s effort to run an orphanage in Angola and her attempt to help young people find peaceful expression through heavy metal music of the horrors they experienced in 11 years of civil war.
Mr. Xido also engaged students of the Zadkine College Rotterdam in a lively discussion about ways of expression, U.S. metal music, and growing up in Detroit in a diverse community.
The events were made possible by a partnership between post and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
