PEPFAR Concert Promotes HIV Testing

December 18, 2012

With support from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan’s for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an outdoor concert took place on the evening of December 18, 2012, in central Hanoi at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square on Hoan Kiem Lake. Over a thousand audience members made up of college students and passers-by joined famous singers, dancers and models to support and promote Vietnam's national action month for HIV and encourage people to "Know Your Status."

U.S. Embassy Hanoi Deputy Chief of Mission Claire Pierangelo attended the event and took an HIV test before the show, along with local celebrities, at the on-site mobile testing facility. Publicized HIV testing of such high profile dignitaries sent a clear message to the public about the importance of knowing one's HIV status and fighting lingering stigmas.

The concert was produced by Big Toe Co. Ltd in collaboration with local and international organizations working in HIV/AIDS.
