The US Seventh Fleet Band

On June 1st this year, Samoa celebrated its 50 year anniversary of independence from New Zealand rule. This proud Pacific Island nation had week-long festivities from May 31st to June 5. The highlights of this year’s festivities included a UB40 Concert at Apia Park, Step Afrika (see schedule below) performed at different locations around the country, and a US Navy 7th fleet Marching Band (see schedule below).

Step Afrika

The United States Embassy Apia, is happy to announce the participation of American entertainers at this year’s 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations. Step Afrika, a critically acclaimed group of dancers dedicated to the tradition of stepping will be performing at a number of venues over the week and is also taking part in a number of official events. The US Seventh Fleet Band

The US Seventh Fleet Band, staffed by some of the Navy’s finest musicians will also be in Apia this week. The band, under the direction of Fleet Bandmaster, Lieutenant Junior Grade Geordie F.O Kelly operates from Yokosuka, Japan along with the US 7th Fleet flagship, USS Blue Ridge.
