July 3, 2012 Fukuoka – Learn for yourself from one of the leading U.S. experts on Asian and Japanese business!  Dr. Richard Dasher, the Director of the Stanford University US-Asia Technology Management Center, spoke on entrepreneurship in Asia, Japan and U.S. in Japanese at the Fukuoka American Center, in a program available for viewing on the Ustream website.  Dr. Dasher’s talk was co-sponsored by the Kyushu University Entrepreneurship Center (QREC) and moderated by QREC Director Dr Toru Tanigawa.

Japan’s potential entrepreneurs, government leaders seeking to stimulate local investment, and students looking to focus their studies on growth areas can all learn from trends in new business activity in Asia, according to Dr. Dasher. He contrasted the attitudes about the opportunities to be gained through entrepreneurship and belief in their own potential as business leaders between people in Japan, where entrepreneurship activity is low, and China, India and other countries seeing explosive growth in new business start-ups.

Dr. Dasher also recommended paying attention to the activity of venture capital funds as a source of insight into industries poised for immediate growth: cloud computing, clean technologies and healthcare are three of the hottest areas for new investment today.  He also suggested that new businesses do not model their activity on existing big companies, which follow long development processes, but instead operate under a feeling of pressure to reach the market as soon as possible.
