On January 28, 2013, to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the U.S. Embassy invited Cambodian students and members of civil society to a screening of the documentary film  “The Last Flight of Petr Ginz.”  The film recounts the amazing life of a Czech boy who was imprisoned and eventually killed in a Nazi concentration camp.  In spite of his terrible circumstances, the young Petr created a wonderful array of drawings and writings that demonstrated the resilience of his spirit in the midst of suffering.

The screening of the film was followed by a presentation by the Documentation Center of Cambodia which highlighted the important similarities and differences between the Holocaust and the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge.  Following the presentation, the attendees had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the importance of remembering these dark events of human history.
