The two discussed challenges in the area in the hemisphere and the benefits of regional cooperation, among other issues.
“The proposals presented must still be discussed" said the Chair of the Permanent Council, Joel Hernádez.
The objective is to adapt the tasks of the organization to its core objectives and its resources.
"We sadly regret that such atrocities keep happening against the lives and safety of citizens in our countries."
Lázaro Cardenas Batel, Chief of the Mission of the OAS, said that the elections took place in a "peaceful atmosphere."
“The contribution of the European Union has been key” to the process, said the Secretary General.
“The ease with which unbalanced people or criminals have access to guns is something that must be acted on,” he said.
The Secretary General designated Rafael Alburquerque as Chief of the Mission that will accompany the elections on February 17.
