About David M. Zimov

Nuevo Laredo Consul General

Dr. David Zimov arrived in Nuevo Laredo as the new Consul General on July 23, 2012.  He had previously served as the Acting Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Coordination for the Western Hemisphere, in Washington, D.C, where he helped manage -- with the Agency for International Development -- U.S. foreign assistance budgets for the Western Hemisphere, and also focused on human rights issues, legislative affairs, and outreach to the academic and think tank communities in the hemisphere.  

In 2006 he served as the Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, where he focused on internal political issues.  Dr. Zimov served on the staff of the National Security Council in the White House Situation Room and on former-Secretary of State Colin Powell’s intelligence staff.   Dr. Zimov also managed counterterrorism in Africa at the U.S. Department of State in the Office of the Secretary of State.   He has also previously served as the Political/Military Affairs officer at U.S. Embassy Panama City, Panama and as the American Citizen Services officer at U.S. Embassy Bogota.

Dr. Zimov received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in finance, his master’s in history from the University of Alabama, and his doctorate from the London School of Economics and Political Science in international history.  Before joining the Foreign Service, Dr. Zimov worked as a professor of history and international relations.

He was born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio.
