Ambassador Carter Hosts Election Reception
Ambassador Phillip Carter III highlighted the role of strong institutions and a shared commitment to democratic values among Americans as he hosted an election night reception in the Embassy Atrium. The reception brought together representatives from civil society, political institutions, the media, educational institutions and the arts for a conversation about the U.S. presidential elections. “Individuals come and go but our institutions remain,” the Ambassador said. “That is what democracy is all about. Today’s political contest, to see who is chosen to lead these strong institutions temporarily, is our political tradition.” Ambassador Carter also noted the spirited exchanges, including some “harsh criticisms” made during the campaign, but reminded the guests that “that is what democracy is all about.”
