Dr Susanna Wing at the headquater of the Women Associations Network

U.S. Embassy N’Djamena brought Dr.  Susanna Wing, professor at Haverford College’s Political Science Department, to Chad for a series of conferences on “Women and Politics.”   Dr. Wing’s program, which covered three busy days, started with a conference at the National Assembly for a presentation on Women and Politics, where she also shared experiences with women parliamentarians.  Dr. Wing next served as moderator for a DVC at the Embassy on the “Race for Congress” facilitated from Paris by Professor Steven Ekovich, and attended by 15 top-notch contacts including members of parliament, political party leaders, university professors, and NGO leaders.  On Friday, October 19, Dr. Wing gave a press conference attended by journalists from 10 media houses, including the Chadian National Television.  She answered a variety of questions, including the role of American women in politics, the chances of electing a woman as U.S. President, the support of the USG to African women involved in politics, etc.   Dr. Wing held another conference that afternoon at the headquarters of the Women Associations Network that offered her an additional opportunity to stress the importance and the necessity for Chadian women to get involved in politics in order to better promote and protect their rights.  Dr. Wing’s visit concluded with a presentation about the U.S. electoral process for high school students at “Centre Emmanuel,” a Catholic Church center for youth where some 35 high school students from various Catholic, Protestant and Islamic schools attended and were enthusiastic questioners about the U.S. electoral process.
