Eric H. Madison is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa.  From 2010 to 2012, he served as the Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), a non-profit, private corporation established shortly after the United States Government changed its diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing on January 1, 1979.  In 2009 he was the Economic Counselor and, on occasion, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From 2005-2008, he served as Deputy Counselor in the Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. Mr. Madison had three tours in the Department of State’s Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs from 1999-2005, covering aviation negotiations, public diplomacy, and Iraq reconstruction.  He has also served in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Khartoum, Sudan; Tunis, Tunisia; and in Bonn, Germany in the Economic Section and also on a Fellowship of Hope, and he was the U.S. Department of State’s Sudan Desk Officer from 1982-1984.

A Washington, D.C. native, Mr. Madison is a French literature graduate from Dartmouth College. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Constance in Germany where he earned a diploma in German literature.
