  • Newark Art Museum Picturing America Conferences

    For New Jersey Teaches Only

    The Newark Museum and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invite teachers to apply for participation in the 2011-2012 Picturing America Conferences at the Newark Museum. These two conferences are specifically designed for New Jersey teachers to help them learn how to use art and material culture (objects produced by human beings) to teach American history and the humanities. Participation at each conference is limited to 50 middle and high school teachers of history, social studies, English- language arts, visual arts, and the humanities.

    All applicants must be currently teaching in the classroom, and either applicant or school must be a recipient of the NEH’s Picturing America teaching resource. Application forms may be downloaded at http://www.newarkmuseum.org/NEHConferences.html and must be submitted by mail to the Museum no later than September 23, 2011. Applicants will be notified of admission by October 21, 2011.

  • Prohibition Seminar

    In this online professional seminar, learn how to combine Ken Burns’s series Prohibition with primary sources to teach this rich and exciting period. The seminar is on November 8, and the registration deadline is November 1. It is hosted by the National Humanities Center.
