Much like people, every road, every highway, has its own personality...its own character

Statement from the Division Engineer
Hello, my name is Melisa Ridenour, the Division Engineer at Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division. It is a pleasure to welcome you to our website. I hope you will come “work where others play.”

America’s scenic byways are the backbone of American tourism and history. Each has its own unique culture, heritage, natural beauty and legacy that reflect the American story. Yes, we build scenic roads and bridges for everyone to enjoy our national treasures – in our national parks, forests and refuges. Americans are in love with these natural, scenic and historic areas, so we help provide a means to experience the wonder of them. As travel and tourism continue to grow in this country the future needs for transportation services on Federal and tribal lands will continue to grow.

It is a challenge to work in these phenomenal environments since the roadway must compliment and respect these surroundings. In other words, we engineer solutions so the road lies “lightly on the land.” These areas are pleasure destinations, so the roads and bridges we build oftentimes become monuments in themselves. Can you imagine being part of designing and constructing roadways that blend into the surrounding environment speaking its own unique message!

Our employees are the lifeblood of our agency. We place a very high value on our employees who deliver our program and build our partnerships – they are the future of the Federal Highway Administration. There is much to do, but we have fun while achieving it. So come join our family and “work where others play.” Build a future with us!
