CSM Thomas J. Latter Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas J. Latter

Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas J. Latter, a native of Albany, N.Y., entered the U.S. Army on July 17, 1985, and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and advanced individual training as an electronic warfare signals intelligence analyst at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

His first duty assignment was the 125th Military Intelligence Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He served with the 742nd MI BN, Fort Meade, Md.; 344th MI BN, Goodfellow AFB; 3rd MI BN (Aerial Exploitation), Camp Humphreys, Korea; 314th MI BN, Medina AFB, Texas; 102nd MI BN, Camp Essayons, Korea; 1st Brigade Troops Battalion, Camp Hovey, Korea; 741st MI BN, Fort Meade; and 743rd MI BN, Buckley AFB, Colo.

Command Sgt. Maj. Latter has held various key leadership and analytical positions: Battalion command sergeant major; operations sergeant major; first sergeant; superintendent of Medina Regional Security Operations Center Global Missions Division; chief of MRSOC Cryptanalytic Exploitation Center; senior signals intelligence sergeant; instructor and developer for both the Basic Electronic Warfare Signal Intelligence Course and the Fundamental Military Cryptanalyst Course; senior voice analyst; battalion training NCO; brigade intelligence electronic warfare support element NCO; and electronic warfare/signals intelligence analyst. His military education includes the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course; Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course; Fundamental Military Cryptanalysis Course (T9); Cryptologic Skills for Noncommissioned Officers Course (CK-155); Nuclear Biological Chemical Defense School; Jungle Operations Training Course; Air Assault Course; and Rappel Master Course. He also is a graduate of the Post Graduate Intelligence Program and Undergraduate Intelligence Program offered by the National Defense Intelligence College (formerly the Joint Military Intelligence College), Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters; ninth award of the Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal with bronze star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 4; Air Assault Badge and Driver Badge (W).

Command Sgt. Maj. Latter received the Military Intelligence Corps Knowlton Award, the Air Education and Training Command Master Instructor Badge and the U.S. Army Intelligence Command and Fort Huachuca Senior and Master Instructor Badges.

He holds a Masters of Science of Strategic Intelligence degree from the Joint Military Intelligence College, a Bachelor of Science Degree (Cum Laude) in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College and an associate degree in Applied Science in Instructor of Technology and Military Science from the Community College of the Air Force.

Command Sgt. Maj. Latter is married to his wife Terri.
