NTIA has worked with a number of other federal departments and agencies to establish a portal of useful resources, tools, and information related to digital literacy. As more and more jobs and information are available primarily online, the ability to use computers and navigate the Internet are critical to participation in the economy. The Digital Literacy portal aggregates resources and facilitates collaboration among practitioners who are working mainly with vulnerable populations to enhance their digital literacy skills. The website is an initiative that will aggregate resources culled from the available digital literacy resources of participating agencies and departments, as well as key non-Federal resources. While various websites devote attention to digital literacy, this new portal will conveniently organize content for ease of use, foster collaboration among practitioners and share knowledge about best practices in the field. The site and its commenting features are also intended to increase citizen participation – one of the objectives of the White House's Open Government Directive.

The digital literacy site strives to represent a diverse range of project types, geographic regions, and stakeholders. Therefore, we may decline to publish content or comments that are contrary to achieving this goal. NTIA reserves the right to edit content for conformity to U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) policies, e.g., content should not endorse products, goods, or services, or solicit financial contributions. In addition, NTIA may edit or use only a portion of the content or comment for brevity, style, and relevance. Edited content or comments will not be published without express written approval by the author (or someone who is authorized to represent the author).
We recognize that the Web is a 24/7 medium, and your content and comments are welcome at any time. However, given the need to manage federal resources, moderating and posting of content and comments will generally only occur during regular business hours Monday through Friday. If you submit content or a comment after hours or on weekends, we will read and post them as soon as possible.
To ensure that digital literacy site visitors are aware when they are leaving the digital literacy web site for destinations outside the Federal Government, any link from the digital literacy website that directs a visitor to a site not under the control of a Federal Government agency or organization shall be accompanied by a clear notification that the visitor is leaving the site for a non-U.S. government site.
The digital literacy linking policy follows the policy of the DOC Offsite Notification Policy and the DOC Web Advisory Council.
Use of photos, video, and other media
We will post photos, graphics, and videos in accordance with the content policy, i.e., we will only post media for which we have written approval from a person authorized to provide such approval. Such approval should inform NTIA that necessary to disseminate photos, graphics or video images that include people consent has been obtained. NTIA will post the submitted content or photos containing images of or information about children age 13 or under only upon receipt of a written statement from a person authorized to provide a release attesting that written consent to display the images and/or information has been obtained from the parent or guardian of the child(ren) portrayed on the digital literacy website. Any photos, graphics, videos, or other media should include a short description or caption.
