Elimination of Unused or Little Used Web Addresses (Domain Names)
In recent years, the number of .gov web addresses (domain names) administered by government agencies had multiplied uncontrollably. The cost and security implications of maintaining a large number of .gov domains, and the resulting confusion among customers deciding which URL to use, led to a government-wide initiative to reduce the number of domain names wherever possible.
As part of this initiative, OMB led a government task force to review existing domain names (web addresses) with .gov extensions and identify domains that could be eliminated, consolidated, or streamlined.
One of the results of the task force is that the following domain names associated with TreasuryDirect.gov will be eliminated as of January 15, 2013. However, since the URLs were primarily redirects to another web address, you can use the replacement URL listed below to reach the same Internet site.
