AFN LIVORNO MISSION STATEMENT
The American Forces Network Livorno (AFN LIV) develops Soldiers and Civilian professionals and leaders who provide relevant, targeted force protection and command information, news and entertainment to DoD personnel and their families throughout the United States Army Garrison Livorno community in order to support all Commanders in maintaining readiness and morale by giving their messages the widest possible reach.

ABOUT AFN LIVORNO
 
Since 1983, the American Forces Network Livorno located at Camp Darby, between the cities of Pisa and Livorno, Italy, has been providing American service members, families and Defense Department civilian employees stationed in Europe with the best of American radio and television services. AFN Livorno is an operational arm of Headquarters, AFN South, located in Vicenza, Italy. AFN Livorno is categorized as a “radio plus” station whose primary mission is providing the latest uncensored news, information and entertainment from home to the USAG Livorno community. On weekdays you can tune into AFN “The Eagle” on 106.0 FM and hear the local radio broadcasts between 0600-1000 and 1400-1800. They share a television station with their sister station AFN Vicenza, with whom they produce a nightly newscast including television news stories and information about the Camp Darby community. The latest music, news and information services are sent to AFN Europe and are available on a number of FM stations broadcasting throughout the U.S. European Command, on-base cable systems, and via satellite decoders.

General Information

 
 AFN Livorno is located on Camp Darby between the cities of Pisa and Livorno, Italy.  Aside from being an important logistical and maintenance hub for the Army and Air Force in southern Europe, Camp Darby is home to the Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s American Beach and caters to a significant transient tourist population every year.  AFN Livorno first hit the airwaves on August 1st, 1983.

 

Major Community/Commands Served:

AFN Livorno serves the Camp Darby military community including the following commands:  USAG Livorno, 731st Munitions Squadron (MUNS), 839th Transportation Battalion, 511th Military Police Platoon and Army Field Support Battalion Italy.

 

Demographics: 

AFN Livorno provides radio and television coverage for an audience of 1,300 military, civilians and retirees.

Productions: 

Television: 

  • Vicenza-Livorno Update:  1-Minute Newsbreak produced 4 times per week that airs in newcasts at 1823 and 2223 on week nights.
  • Spot Announcements: Approximately 25 new announcements produced every month covering command information priorities and community activities.

Radio:

  • Camp Darby Radio Report:  Three separate radio newscasts that air throughout the day.
  • Spot Announcements: Approximately 20 new announcements produced monthly that are aired in two-minute spot breaks on local shows, and one-minute spot breaks during network shows.
  • Local live radio show:  Monday through Friday mornings from 06:00-10:00 with SGT Susan Noga and afternoons from 14:00-18:00 with Army SSG Brian "BDT" Tierce and SGT Chuck "The Hostile Butterfly" Duncanson!    

Transmitters and Frequencies: 

AFN Livorno broadcasts from one television and one radio transmitter terrestrial sites, also our local television signal is distributed via satellite and can be picked up with an AFRTS decoder on Channel 14 (shared with Vicenza).  AFN Livorno radio frequencies FM (MHz) 106.00 “The Eagle” and 107.00 “Power Net” service the communities of Livorno and Pisa Italy.
