Faculty Services

School Liaisons: A bibliographer is assigned as a liaison to each AU school. This Librarian can help you identify appropriate course readings, acquire needed materials not in the collections, set up tours or library instructional sessions for classes, or orient you to the services and resources at the Library.

Curriculum Assistance: The AUL Homepage offers curriculum support sections for each of the schools. This service is managed by the school liaisons who organize references, internet sites, bibliographies, book reviews, and database links in support of specific research assignments. For an example of this service, select Start School Assignments from the Homepage, next select a school. Contact your school liaison or the Chief Bibliographer at 953-5042 or online at special.htm

Bibliographies: Each bibliographer is assigned subject and geographic areas for which they conduct literature searches, and at certain intervals publish bibliographies. A title list of AU Library bibliographies is available online at http://www.au.af.mil/au/aul/bib97.htm. Bibliographies may be produced upon request to support school assignments. For further information contact the Chief Bibliographer at 953-5042.

Material Requests: (AUL OI 34-4, Collection Development & Management). The AU Library solicits input from the faculty for material purchases. Complete identification of items is requested, and you will be notified when the items have been received and processed. Requests may be turned in at the Reference Desk or online by filling out a comment form. For further information contact the Chief of Reader Services Division at 953-2237.

Interlibrary Loan: If you need to utilize materials for research that are not in the Library's collection, it is possible to borrow them through Interlibrary Loan. The AU Library does not charge for this service and transactions will take approximately 10 days for receipt of materials. Contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at 953-7223 or complete an online request form.

Faculty Loan Periods: When registering for a library card, identify yourself as faculty, and you will be able to borrow books for up to 90 days. This loan period does not include periodicals, documents, videos, or authority materials. Items may be renewed by telephone at 953-2230.

Databases: Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center offers access to over 60 electronic databases to AU students and faculty from the library and the schools. Descriptions of our electronic resources are available at:  http://www.au.af.mil/au/aul/dbases.htm.  Select databases are also available off-base with user IDs and passwords.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Electronic Services Librarian at 953-8301.

Course Reserves: The Book Circulation Section will establish a course reserve section if notified a minimum of 2 weeks prior to initiation of the course. The faculty member must complete an information form, identify the terms of student use, and document copyright compliance for articles or chapters.  Contact the Circulation Desk at 953-2230.
