February 4-9 marks the ninth annual NOAA Heritage Week, during which NOAA will provide opportunities to explore the ways NOAA protects and manages our ocean and coastal resources.

Want to learn more about NOAA, its rich history, and how it takes the pulse of our planet every day? February 4-9 marks the ninth annual NOAA Heritage Week, during which NOAA will provide opportunities to explore the ways NOAA protects and manages our ocean and coastal resources.

Open House
The NOAA Silver Spring campus will host an open house on Saturday, February 9, from 9am to 4pm, featuring guest presentations, interactive exhibits, and free hands-on activities for ages five and up. Visitors will also have the opportunity to talk with scientists, weather forecasters, hurricane hunter pilots, and others who work to understand our environment, protect life and property, and conserve and protect natural resources.

Lunchtime Talks
NOAA will host a series of daily lunchtime presentations at the Gateway to NOAA on timely topics such as ocean acidification, extreme weather events, and the new Sea Unseen art exhibit.

Gateway to NOAA Exhibit
The Gateway to NOAA is a free permanent exhibit at NOAA that features breathtaking imagery, multimedia presentations, and amazing artifacts that illustrate how NOAA has, since its earliest history, sought to increase people's understanding of the land, the sea, and the sky.

NOAA Heritage Week is presented in accordance with Preserve America, a federal initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the initiative include a greater shared knowledge of our nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for communities' economic vitality.

NOAA Heritage Week and the Gateway to NOAA exhibit are largely made possible through the passion and energy of NOAA employees, who volunteer their time to share how NOAA touches the lives of Americans every day.
