Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis

Infections with soil-transmitted helminths (STHs), which are intestinal worms transmitted through contaminated soil, are the most common infections worldwide. Globally, more than 1 billion people are infected with one or more STHs, mainly in areas with warm and moist climates where sanitation and hygiene are poor. Infection with STH contributes to anemia, vitamin A deficiency, malnutrition and impaired growth, delayed development, and intestinal blockages.
