  • USAID Awards New Flagship Project “Envision” for Neglected Tropical Diseases – 10/21/11
    USAID is pleased to announce the award of its new flagship project for neglected tropical diseases to RTI International. The project, Envision, is a five-year Cooperative Agreement, with a $240 million ceiling, which covers the period of October 1, 2011, to September 29, 2016.

  • U.S. Supports Vietnam to Control and Eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases – 09/08/11
    "Vietnam has made impressive achievements in controlling neglected tropical diseases," U.S. Ambassador David Shear told a gathering of health experts sponsored by USAID. "This success can and must be documented and shared to help other countries achieve similar results." USAID will work with the Ministry of Health in Vietnam to coordinate de-worming activities and fill gaps in coverage. USAID activities will include national prevalence surveys for school-age children and mass drug administration in 13 provinces.

  • In Memoriam: Dr. Likezo Mubila – 08/10/11
    It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear colleague Dr. Likezo Mubila passed away suddenly on August 4, 2011. Likezo was a tireless advocate for the people affected by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the African region. As the focal point for NTDs at the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), Likezo was dedicated to supporting countries in Africa to control and eliminate lymphatic filariasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, and schistosomiasis.

  • Invitation to Participate in the 2010 Deworming Inventory – 03/07/11
    The Global NGO Deworming Inventory was launched in June of 2010, with the explicit purpose of assessing the breadth and scope of NGO deworming activities and their treatment achievements worldwide. The 2010 Deworming Inventory strives to continue highlighting the achievements of NGO deworming programs and ensure that your efforts are accounted for at the global level.

  • Cameroon Releases a New Report on the USAID-Supported Program to Control Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Worms – 02/01/11
    Nearly 6 million children were dewormed in 2010 through a program implemented by the Ministries of Health and Education, with support from USAID, RTI, and Helen Keller International. Nearly 4 million treatments were donated by Johnson & Johnson and 2.5 million were donated by WHO/Merck. In addition, recent mapping results show success of annual deworming campaigns and control of schistosomiasis. Download the full report [PDF, 4.6MB].

  • Johnson & Johnson Announces Fourfold Increase in Mebendazole Donation – 09/09/10
    On September 9, 2010, Johnson & Johnson announced the launch of Every Mother, Every Child, a comprehensive, five-year, private sector effort to improve the health of women and children in developing countries. The initiative supports the United Nations' April 2010 call for a renewed effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of reducing mortality in women and children by 2015.

  • Global NGO Deworming Inventory Report Available – 07/18/10
    The first report of the Global NGO Deworming Inventory is now available on the Inventory Web site. The report provides a list of deworming programs operating in various countries and is intended to serve as a resource in facilitating collaboration among deworming programs working in the same country.

  • Announcing the Global NGO Deworming Inventory – 07/12/10
    The Global NGO Deworming Inventory is a global database that collates data on deworming activities implemented by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to treat soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH), schistosomiasis, and/or lymphatic filariasis (LF).

2009

  • USAID to Target NTDs in Cameroon and Togo – 08/17/09
    USAID is pleased to announce the addition of two new focus countries to its NTD Program. Following a competitive grant review process through its NTD Control Program, Health Development International (HDI) has been selected to receive a grant to implement integrated NTD control activities in Togo and Helen Keller International (HKI) has been selected to receive a second grant to implement NTD control activities in Cameroon. Cameroon and Togo join a growing list of countries supported by USAID’s NTD Program.

  • President Obama Announces New Global Health Initiative - 05/05/09
    On May 5, 2009 President Obama announced a new comprehensive global health strategy to address some of the biggest global health challenges. Along with enhanced efforts to address child and maternal health and family planning, the President expressed strong support for tackling neglected tropical diseases.  The President's 2010 budget focuses attention on these areas under a new Global Health Initiative.

  • Bill and Melinda Gates Urge Global Leaders to Maintain Foreign Aid – 01/30/09
    Bill and Melinda Gates announced a $34 million grant to the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases to help control and greatly reduce the burden of the most prevalent neglected diseases that affect the world's poorest populations by 2020.

  • Global Annual Program Statement Released – 01/26/09

    USAID is pleased to announce the posting of a Global Annual Program Statement (APS) by the Neglected Tropical Disease Control Program soliciting applications from eligible organizations for conducting Neglected Tropical Disease Control Programs in direct partnership with governments in the eligible countries.
