USAID Awards New Flagship Project “Envision” for Neglected Tropical Diseases – 10/21/11
USAID is pleased to announce the award of its new flagship project for neglected tropical diseases to RTI International. The project, Envision, is a five-year Cooperative Agreement, with a $240 million ceiling, which covers the period of October 1, 2011, to September 29, 2016.
U.S. Supports Vietnam to Control and Eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases – 09/08/11
"Vietnam has made impressive achievements in controlling neglected tropical diseases," U.S. Ambassador David Shear told a gathering of health experts sponsored by USAID. "This success can and must be documented and shared to help other countries achieve similar results." USAID will work with the Ministry of Health in Vietnam to coordinate de-worming activities and fill gaps in coverage. USAID activities will include national prevalence surveys for school-age children and mass drug administration in 13 provinces.
In Memoriam: Dr. Likezo Mubila – 08/10/11
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear colleague Dr. Likezo Mubila passed away suddenly on August 4, 2011. Likezo was a tireless advocate for the people affected by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the African region. As the focal point for NTDs at the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), Likezo was dedicated to supporting countries in Africa to control and eliminate lymphatic filariasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, and schistosomiasis.

Cameroon Releases a New Report on the USAID-Supported Program to Control Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Worms – 02/01/11
Nearly 6 million children were dewormed in 2010 through a program implemented by the Ministries of Health and Education, with support from USAID, RTI, and Helen Keller International. Nearly 4 million treatments were donated by Johnson & Johnson and 2.5 million were donated by WHO/Merck.
