Wiesbaden hosts military boxing matches; next event set for Grafenwöhr

Bavarian Military Community took top team honors at Saturday’s military boxing event at Clay Kaserne in Wiesbaden, Germany, outlasting USAG-Wiesbaden, Team Wiesbaden, Spangdahlem and Stuttgart.

The next scheduled military boxing event is March 2 at USAG-Grafenwöhr.

Here’s the rundown from Wiesbaden:

Team scores: 1. Bavarian Military Community 42; 2. USAG Wiesbaden 22; 3. Team Wiesbaden 20; 4t.  Spangdahlem 6; 4t. Stuttgart 6.

Middleweight: Nathaniel Barnd (USAG-W) dec. Manual Valdez (BMC), 4-1; Tylus Rodgers (USAG W) RSC. Dustin Reed (TW) 1:35, 1st round.

Light heavyweight: Imo Aieti (BMC) dec. Sugar Cruz (BMC) 5-0.

Heavyweight: Shawn Elliot (TW) dec. Nieko Guillory (USAG-W) 4-1; David Brown (BMC) dec.  Arien Edwards (USAG-W) 4-1; Arron Aylsworth (Spang) by DQ over Clinton Lyons (BMC) 0:37, third round; Levi Aylsworth (TW) dec. Joshua Grether (BMC) 5-0. 

Super heavyweight: Jamaal Warren (USAG-S) RSC. Joshua Goheen (BMC), 0:35, first round; Fernando Mendoza (BMC) won by walkover; Rubin Stackhouse (USAG-W) RSC. Gabriels Nichols (BMC), 1:15, first round.

About the Author

Gregory Broome is an experienced and accomplished community sports journalist. Officially a native of Iowa, Broome grew up a Department of Defense dependent at sites all over the United States and Germany. He finally settled in Florida, earning a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Central Florida. Broome began his journalism career in in 2004 as a sports writer for the Ocala Star-Banner in Ocala, Fla., covering high school, college and community sports and earning recognition for his work from the Florida Press Club. In 2009 Broome was named the first sports information director at College of Central Florida, an NJCAA member school, where he launched the program's website and social media pages and revamped its promotional and game-day operations. Broome joined Stars and Stripes in October of 2012.
