Employment Policy

TVA's Office of the Inspector General is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable laws and regulations regarding equal employment opportunities.

Citizenship

The OIG gives hiring preference to qualified United States citizens and other "protected individuals" (green card holders, asylees, etc.) for all job vacancies. Between qualified United States citizens and other protected individuals, the OIG gives hiring preference to equally qualified born or naturalized United States citizens.

If you are not a United States citizen but are authorized to work in the United States, copies of your work authorization document(s) must be received by the closing date of the position for which you are applying.

Veterans

If you are a United States military veteran and wish to claim veteran's preference, all veteran documents must be received by the closing date of the position.

For more information about TVA's policies on Equal Employment Opportunity, Citizenship, and Veteran's Preference, go to www.tva.gov/employment.

How to Apply

The OIG only accepts e-mailed resumes for posted vacancies. The resume should be e-mailed to oigcareers@tvaoig.gov. All applications should reference the job announcement number and must be received by the closing date specified in the job announcement. Resumes are accepted only for current open jobs. See Vacancies for current job opportunities.

All supporting documentation related to work authorization or veteran preference must be submitted to the OIG at oigcareers@tvaoig.gov by the closing date of the job announcement.

CAREERS IN THE OIG

The OIG is committed to cultivating and retaining a highly skilled, innovative, and motivated workforce and has implemented a number of programs to meet this objective. These include alternative and flexible work schedules, recognition programs, financial incentives for selected certifications, and various training programs. In addition to recruiting auditors and investigators, the office has administrative positions, i.e., attorney, human resources, programmer analysts, computer specialists, management analyst, and administrative support.

Auditor Positions

Auditors plan and conduct operational, financial, financial-related, and/or information technology audits and other audit-related reviews designed to (1) promote economy and efficiency in TVA operations and (2) prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. Auditors are required to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or finance, or other fields supplemented by courses in those areas.

There are four levels of positions in the auditor career ladder--Level I, Level II, Level III, and Senior. In addition, there are a limited number of 5th-level, or Project Manager, positions which are competitive.

The OIG has also instituted a two-year Auditor Career Track (ACT) Program to facilitate recruitment and retention of the "best and brightest" college graduates. This program for Level I auditors is designed to graduate fully trained "journeyman" level auditors who possess a fundamental knowledge of TVA and OIG operations and are fully capable of planning, leading, and executing audits of TVA programs, functions, and operations. The program has two, one-year phases, with increasing complexity of work and levels of responsibility.

Special Agent (Investigator) Positions

OIG special agents conduct investigations of alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws, ethics standards, and TVA policies and practices. Agents must have a bachelor's degree from a 4-year course of study at an accredited college/university, and must demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills and strong interpersonal relations skills. Agents must have completed or be able to complete a basic criminal investigations training course at a federal criminal investigators academy.

There are four levels of positions in the special agent career ladder--Level I, Level II, Level III, and Senior. In addition, there are a limited number of 5th-level, or Senior Special Agent (Relief Supervisors), positions which are competitive. In recent years, the OIG has rarely hired at the entry level for special agent positions.

Office Locations

The primary OIG office is in Knoxville, Tennessee. The OIG also maintains smaller, satellite offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Mayfield, Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee; and Huntsville, Alabama .
