U.S. Forces Korea statement on attack-reconnaissance squadron
YONGSAN GARRISON, Seoul, Republic of Korea –A recent news report states that the Department of Defense and the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff have approved the reinforcement of an Apache helicopter unit here. Although an attack-reconnaissance squadron is authorized under the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, we have no further details until a sourcing decision is made by the U.S. Army.
In his speech to the Association of the Republic of Korea Army in June 2012, Gen. James D. Thurman, commander, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, U.S. Forces Korea said, “In order to enhance war-fighting capabilities I have asked for prioritization to receive an additional attack-reconnaissance squadron to bring our Combat Aviation Brigade to full strength.”
General Thurman also testified on this subject at the House Armed Services Committee in March 2012.

공격/정찰 헬기 대대 기사 관련 주한 미군 성명서
대한민국, 서울, 용산기지 - - 최근에 미 국방부와 합참이 아파치 헬기 대대를 한국에 증강 배치하는 것을 승인했다는 보도가 있었습니다. 추가로 1개 공격/정찰 헬기 대대가 미제2 전투 항공여단 예하에서 운용되는 것이 인가는 되었지만 주한미군사령부는 미육군에서 공식적으로 결정이 발표될 때까지 이에 대한 보다 상세한 내용은 알지 못합니다.
유엔사/연합사/주한미군 사령관 제임스 D. 서먼 (James D. Thurman) 대장은 지난해 6월 육군협회 주최 강연에서, “주한미군 전투항공여단의 전투력 증강 및 극대화을 위하여 공격 및 정찰 헬기 대대를 전투항공여단에 추가 배치하는 것을 최우선 순위에 두고 있다”라고 말한적이 있습니다.
서먼 사령관은 또한 지난 2012년 3월에도 헬기 대대 증강에 관해 미 하원 군사위원회에서 증언한 바 있습니다.
