Hosting the 1992 Olympic Games “totally transformed” Barcelona, according to the city’s mayor, Xavier Trias. Speaking at the Global Sports Forum in March, Trias revealed how the Games created a long-term sporting legacy for the city, increasing sports participation and leading to more major events being held in Barcelona.

Sydney’s Olympic legacies praised Alan Marsh, the CEO of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, has praised the legacies created in the Australian city by hosting the 2000 Olympic Games and emphasised the importance of having proper post-Games plans in place. Marsh singled out the economic benefits created by staging the Games and highlighted how the Games were a catalyst for Sydney to host further major events in the future.
