Bullying causes serious and lasting harm.

Bullying takes many forms, including name-calling, teasing, spreading rumors, breaking up friendships, hutting, punching, shoving and using the Internet, phones or digital technology to harm others.

Bullying involves an imbalance of power, the intent to cause harm and repetition. It's not something you grow out of.

Often, adults may not always intervene in bullying situations - StopBullying.gov said teachers intervene in only 14 percent of classroom bullying episodes and in 4 percent of bullying incidents that happen outside the classroom. 

Not all bullying stops when kids grow older. According to StopBullying.gov, children who consistently bully others often continue their aggressive behavior as they grow up.

  • Complains frequently of headaches, stomachaches or feeling sick
  • Has trouble sleeping or has frequent bad dreams
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Very hungry after school from not eating lunch
  • Loses interest in school work or begins to do poorly in school
  • Appears sad, moody, angry, anxious or depressed
  • Blames themselves for their problems
