The Hazards of Hospitals (Infographic)

By Greg Voakes | Related entries in Health Care, United States

From the graphic: “We all think of the hospital as the place to go to get better. But hospitals in the United States are making people sicker at alarming rates. Between overtired interns, germ-covered doctors, and haphazard record keeping, you might find yourself in more trouble than you were when you checked in.“ Tweet

Criminology and White Collar Crime: When Rich White Guys Get Greedy

By Greg Voakes | Related entries in Business, Ethics, Pictures

White-collar crime is quite an incredible industry – millions of dollars disappear each year to offshore bank accounts, hookers, drugs, and yachts because rich executives (generally rich white guys) aren’t satisfied with their Porsches. White-collar crime finally got some serious attention when corruption single-handedly destroyed the lives of four thousand Enron employees at the start [...]

The RNC’s New Microsite

By The Pajama Pundit | Related entries in RNC

The Republican National Committee has launched ObamaGetAway.com/ObamaDebtWatch, where you can find (and get embed code) for this dandy little debt ticker: Now, as I talked about earlier this week, I think that the line-of-attack that the President “is absent” because he’s on vacation is plain wrong: To equate vacation time (within reason) with work ethic [...]

Gallup: Rick Perry Leads GOP Frontrunners

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Democrats, Perry, Polls, Republicans

Apparently people are kind of tired of Mitt Romney. The graph… That’s an notable swing and it suggests that Perry is really making waves with diehard conservatives. Another notable trend…Ron Paul’s support continues to grow…and outpaces Bachmann’s. So it sees like the GOP nomination is between a few players. Romney, Perry, Paul and Bachmann. Perhaps [...]

By mw | Related entries in Bipartisan, Debt, Deficit, Democrats, Divided Government, Partisan Nonsense, Republicans

Conventional Wisdom in both main stream and non-traditional media have passed judgement on both the debt ceiling legislation and the bipartisan deficit reduction super committee it begat. Conventional Wisdom informs us that we have seen this movie before and we know how it ends. Conventional Wisdom tells us the bipartisan Super Committee will fail. Problem being – Conventional Wisdom is wrong.

Libya Is Freed, Republicans Argue Not Soon Enough

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Libya, McCain, Military, Obama, Republicans

Let’s see…we’re still in Afghanistan…we’re still in Iraq…we were never really in Libya…and yet that country has been liberated in near record time. Lindsey Graham’s and John McCain’s opinion of the situation? NOT FAST ENOUGH!!! The end of the Qadaffi regime in Libya is a victory for the Libyan people and for the broader cause [...]

Republicans Set To Raise Taxes On Middle Class?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Democrats, Republicans, Taxes

Republicans don’t want the Bush tax cuts to expire for the wealthiest, but they’re fine with letting the payroll tax cut that Obama passed last do so? Hmmm… The tax break extension they oppose is sought by President Barack Obama. Unlike proposed changes in the income tax, this policy helps the 46 percent of all [...]

Libertarian Seasteading Gains Traction With Deep Pockets

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Ideas, Libertarian, The World, WTF?

We first wrote about the idea of seasteading (building new countries offshore on oil platforms) in 2009. At the time, I had this to offer… No doubt it’s an interesting notion, but is this practical? Living on the sea? Just think of how much risk that could entail. Of course you’d do the research to [...]
