Congresswoman Doris Matsui Announces Committee Assignments for the 113th Congress

Role on exclusive Energy and Commerce Committee will help grow and support Sacramento’s clean energy, health care, and technology sectors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) announced her committee assignments for the 113th Congress.  The Congresswoman will continue to represent Sacramento on the influential House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which she was first appointed to in 2008.

“In this Congress we must build on the successes of the last few years and continue to advance legislation that will strengthen our economy, further innovation, and create jobs.  The Energy and Commerce Committee holds jurisdiction over many of the critical issues facing our economy and our nation, including economic development, environmental concerns, clean energy, technology, and health care,” said Congresswoman Matsui.  “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to address these, and other, pressing concerns facing our nation today.  It is my hope that we can work on a more bipartisan basis to do good for our nation.”

This Congress, Congresswoman Matsui will serve on three subcommittees that will allow her to address the pressing needs facing Sacramento and the nation.  Congresswoman Matsui will be serving on the Energy and Power subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over national energy policy.  She will be returning as a member of the Communications and Technology subcommittee, which focuses on creating jobs and spurring investment and innovation in the technology sector.  She will also be returning as a member of the Environment and the Economy subcommittee, which has oversight of key environmental laws and programs.

“The Sacramento region faces many opportunities, and these subcommittee assignments provide a great platform to advocate for our region and to address the pressing issues we face,” said Congresswoman Matsui.  “Our region is increasingly becoming known as the ‘Clean Tech Capitol’ thanks to the numerous innovative clean energy companies and entrepreneurs that call the Sacramento region home.  We also have a major health care presence, with four major health systems and a strong network of safety net providers.  The subcommittee assignments will allow me to help ensure we grow our economy and pursue policies that will continue to move our region and our nation forward.”
