Is Iraq like Vietnam? Wrong question.

By mw | Related entries in Foreign Policy, Iraq, War

The real question is not “Is the 1975 Congressional cutoff of funds for Vietnam an appropriate historical lesson for 2007 Iraq?” The real question is “Can we trust the judgment of this President and this administration to understand/predict the consequences of any military decision or action in Iraq?”

“We’re Military People, But We’re People Too”

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iraq, Video, War

Listening to this military wife talk about her husband and her military friends is heartbreaking. She calls for instituting the draft, but I’d suggest she consider supporting a shift in foreign policy strategy away from Bill Kristol’s view on pre-emptive wars. (h/t: Belgravia Dispatch) Tweet

Huckabee Gets Iowa Straw Poll Bounce

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in News

Or could it be his message that’s resonating with social conservatives? Maybe a little bit of both? On the GOP side, Mitt Romney leads in Iowa and New Hampshire, while Rudy Giuliani is ahead in South Carolina. However, this biggest news is that Mike Huckabee got a bounce from his second place finish in the [...]

Barack Obama, Ron Paul Lead Wikipedia Readership

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Technology

Interesting numbers because this is where Obama begins to show his grassroot chops against Hillary. He had 41,007 readers, compared with Hillary (the nearest Dem) at 18,555. That’s a massive gap. What’s more interesting though, is Ron Paul would dominate the field with 30,960 readers but Fred Thompson is nipping at his heels with 24,160. [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iraq, War

More reports out of Iraq, and the news isn’t particularly encouraging. From NY Times: WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 — An independent commission established by Congress to assess Iraq’s security forces will recommend remaking the 26,000-member national police force to purge it of corrupt officers and Shiite militants suspected of complicity in sectarian killings, administration and military [...]

Save the GOP? Why?

By Pete Abel | Related entries in General Politics

Two days ago at The Carpetbagger Report, Steve Benen published a post re: the implosion of the Republican Party, writing: … I often wonder how, exactly, someone looks at the Republican Party of 2007 — its leaders, its decisions, its priorities, its conduct — and says, ‘You know, that’s the party for me.’ When I [...]

The non-partisan Government Accountability Office will issue a report next Tuesday, but a draft of it has been given to the press for fear the full, unvarnished picture won’t be presented. From the Wash Post: The strikingly negative GAO draft, which will be delivered to Congress in final form on Tuesday, comes as the White [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Money

I promised I’d keep you all up to date, and so… The biggest “new” news from this story in the NY Times is that: He’s originally from Hong Kong. Hsu was going to co-host a large Democratice fundraiser with Quincy Jones next month. He’s donated $255,970 to Democrat candidates and causes. He says that the [...]
