Halloween is here and Denver will be oozing with costumes, creatures and candy all weekend long. There's a grab-bag of events to indulge in: some scary, some sexy, and some scrumptious. Build your base for the evening at Chipotle, which is offering its Boorito deal after 5 p.m., selling all customers in costume $3 burritos, bowls, salads and tacos and kids' meals. Up to $1 million from this Boorito night will be donated to support the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation. This year, Chipotle is also holding a national costume contest; to enter, customers should upload a photo of themselves in costume at Chipotle to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #ChipotleBooritoContest; three grand prize winners will win $2,500 in the categories of "best group," "scariest" and "most creative," and five runners-up will be chosen to receive free Chipotle catering for up to twenty people. For more information, visit boorito.com. And keep reading for our thirteen best spots to trick-or-eat tonight.

Two Boulder Brothers Go Nuts With Bronuts

Mark Antonation
What do you get when two brothers who love doughnuts team up to bake and sell oversized doughnut holes with a few ball jokes thrown in? If you're Mitch and Brett Magdovitz, the answer is Bronuts: cream-filled spherical pastries with names like Bleu Balls, Monkey Balls and Chocolate Salty Balls. The brothers started selling Bronuts earlier this fall, taking orders on their website and delivering them to various pick-up points in the area, mostly in Boulder.

How Stoic & Genuine Stays Fresh With Its Menu...and Seafood

Oysters at Stoic & Genuine.
When people talk about eating seasonally, they're usually referring to the harvest: butternut squash in the fall, asparagus in the spring, and so on. But at Stoic & Genuine, the hot new seafood restaurant in Union Station, seasonality refers to something different, something measured not in frost-free days but spawning, catch limits and water temperature. And that might come as news to landlocked Denverites, who assume that everything that swims is like the chicken of the sea, i.e. available 365 days a year.

Happy Hour at McCormick's: Defending the Champ?

Categories: Happy Hour

McCormicks-Happy-Hour1.JPG
Back before LoDo was stuffed with happy hours pushing all manner of liquids and solids, McCormick's Fish House and Bar -- an outpost of the McCormick's and Schmick's empire that opened in the Oxford Hotel in 1987 -- was legendary for its cheap time, when everything was $1.99. And that included a burger and fries that was renowned as the best deal in the area. Today the prices are much higher and McCormick's is part of colossal seafood conglomerate Landry's, but the franchise was still named best happy hour in America last year by The Daily Meal and USA Today. Does this old standby still have the goods, or has it been shown up by its spunky neighbors?

The beer boom on "the longest, wickedest street in America" will continue next year when Cerebral Brewing opens at the corner of Colfax Avenue and Monroe Street. Owners Sean Buchan, Chris Washenberger and Dan McGuire signed a lease this week for a space in a former Galaxie auto body shop, which is being redeveloped into a small restaurant complex.

Located across from the newish Sprouts Farmers Market development, Cerebral will feature a ten-barrel brewing system from Portland Kettle Works, a 4,000 square-foot space with a patio, and Belgian- and English-inspired brews.

Reader: When Will All the "This & That" Restaurant Names End?

stoicatunion.jpg
Danielle Lirette
Stoic & Genuine was the last restaurant to sign up for Union Station and the first to open.
Expectations were high when Stoic & Genuine opened in the renovated Union Station this summer, and Gretchen Kurtz, who reviews Stoic & Genuine this week, says the restaurant lives up to those expectations. But readers have some quibbles -- with the "hip" factor, the noise, and that damn ampersand...

Does Buffalo Bill Haunt Lola?

There are plenty of bars and restaurants around town hosting Halloween events this week. In addition to pouring spirits, some restaurateurs will be introducing guests to the spirits that reportedly haunt the storerooms and back halls of their establishments. But a few spots don't need to conjure up special-occasion parties; they come by their spooky reputations naturally.

Linger and Lola, for example: The two hot-hot LoHi restaurants occupy buildings that were once part of the Olinger mortuary complex.
