A wonderful visit to a great firm in Concord!- Senator Shaheen released the following statement today on the passing of Myrtle McIntyre.
“During her years of service to the Granite State, Myrtle McIntyre served as a role model for the future generation of women leaders in New Hampshire. Her dedication to civic engagement instilled the ideals of public service in so many throughout our state. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire McIntyre family." - Senator Shaheen will be speaking at UNH Manchester at 1:30 today about the new Pay As You Earn student loan repayment program. Our workforce must have the skills to compete in a global economy - and that means making sure students have access to an affordable education.

- U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen posthumously honored George Giotas, a World War II veteran and Manchester native, at a military medals ceremony yesterday. Shaheen presented the Giotas family with six awards to honor Mr. Giotas for his service t...o the United States. The awards included the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button and Marksmanship Badge with Carbine Bar. Mr. Giotas worked as an automotive mechanic and earned the ranking of Corporal while serving in Italy and Greece from 1942 to 1944.See More

- Senator Shaheen visited Nute High School in Milton to meet with Boy Scout Joey Boulanger to thank him for his community service and help him obtain his "Citzenship in the Nation" badge. Joey suffers from Fragile X Syndrome, which makes writing difficult. Because Joey's award requires writing an elected official, Senator Shaheen instead met with Joey at his school to help fulfill his requirements.

Senator Shaheen announced today that New Hampshire's Pease Air National Guard base has been selected as one of only five National Guard bases being considered to receive the KC46A, a next generation military tanker. The New York Times editorial board this weekend praised the work done by Senator Shaheen on this year's National Defense Authorization Act to help bring health care equity to women in the military. The Times wrote that Shaheen's Amendment would end a "longstanding act of discrimination against women who serve in America's military."
