Senate Approves Levin-Stabenow Bill to Rename Macomb Township Postal Facility after Local Man Killed in Afghanistan

Thursday, December 20, 2012

WASHINGTON – The Senate late Wednesday approved a bill that will rename a U.S. Postal Service carrier annex in Macomb Township, Michigan, as the Lance Cpl. Anthony A. DiLisio Clinton-Macomb Carrier Annex, to honor a Macomb Township resident who was killed while on patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., serves on the Senate subcommittee with oversight of the U.S. Postal Service. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., joined with Levin in requesting that this bill be passed.  The House unanimously approved the bill last month.

"Lance Corporal DiLisio made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation," Levin said.  "While no act of Congress can fully honor those who give so much, I hope placing his name on this postal facility will provide a permanent reminder of how much he and his generation of men and women in uniform have done for America."

"Lance Corporal DiLisio was a hero who gave his life to keep Michigan and our nation safe," said Stabenow.  "I hope this action will help his community honor the incredible sacrifices of Lance Corporal DiLisio and all our men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much to defend our nation."

Lance Cpl. DiLisio died in May, 2010.  He had volunteered for extra duty after being told that he could have the day off.  His unit was scheduled to return to the United States the following month.  Employees at the postal facility requested the renaming of the facility.
