Sarah Palin, Fox News no more

Fox confirmed that the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee would no longer be a regular on-air commentator, but declined to discuss the circumstances of her departure. The website Real Clear Politics said on Friday that Palin decided not to accept Fox’s contract-renewal offer.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our association with Gov. Palin,” said Bill Shine, Fox News’ executive vice president of programming, in a statement. “We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Palin has been an on-air contributer to Fox, the leading cable news channel, for the past three years. In interviews with Fox’s conservative hosts, she typically offered pugnacious and headline-grabbing comments about President Obama.

The arrangement seemed to benefit both Fox and Palin. Palin’s star power drew viewers to the network, while Fox helped keep Palin in front of viewers as she mulled a run for president and promoted various projects, such as her books.

It’s not clear if Palin will seek to join another network in a similar role. She had no comment on Friday on her widely followed Twitter feed and Facebook page.

Palin was so prominent on Fox that the network built a TV studio for her inside her home in Wasilla, Alaska in 2010 so that she could do live interviews without leaving her front door.
