Senator Stabenow Sworn In for Third Term
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow today was sworn in for her third term in the Senate by Vice President Joe Biden, President of the Senate. First elected to the Senate in 2000, and the first woman Senator from Michigan, Stabenow was joined by family and friends from across the state for the swearing-in ceremony.
"It is truly an honor to serve the people of the great state of Michigan in the U.S. Senate," said Stabenow. "I will continue to stand-up for Michigan's middle-class families and businesses as we work hard to grow our economy and create the jobs of the future."
Senator Stabenow was sworn in after winning reelection to a third term in November by an overwhelming 21-point margin, with strong support from Democrats, Independents and even many Republicans.
Senator Stabenow is Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and is fighting to grow the Michigan agriculture economy, the second-largest sector of the Michigan economy. Stabenow has also been known for her instrumental work in championing the rescue of the auto industry, helping to make Michigan a leader in new energy and advanced manufacturing technologies, confronting other countries' trade violations and always standing up for American workers and middle-class families.
