"Downton Abbey" actress Lesley Nicol is appearing on "Once Upon a Time."

Make room for Mrs. Patmore in the world of fairy tales! ABC confirmed that "Downton Abbey" actress Lesley Nicol, better known as the cook on the hit British show, will be appearing on "Once Upon A Time."

Details are scarce about her appearance, but ABC told The Clicker that Nicol's character will have "a special connection to the Snow White family." There's no word yet on an air date, or whether she'll appear in more than one episode.

On Wednesday, "Once" star Josh Dallas, who plays Prince Charming/David, tweeted his enthusiasm over Nicol's involvement on the show. "As a Huge #DowntonAbbey Fan I'm very excited @lesley_nicol is coming to #OnceUponATime!" he wrote.

Nicol tweeted in reply, "I am looking forward to it!! See you all soon."

The actress may be joining the realm of magic, but she'll still be on "Downton." Nicol is reportedly due back in the U.K. in February to film season four of the period drama.

"Once Upon a Time" returns Sunday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

  • Patti Page dies at 85, sang 'Tennessee Waltz,' 'How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?'

Singer Patti Page, whose smooth alto voice made hits of "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?", "Tennessee Waltz" and "Old Cape Cod," has died at 85, her manager confirmed to NBC News. She had a seven-decade musical career and sold more than 100 million records. Though some of her hits were considered novelty songs, she continued to perform into the 2000s, and briefly dabbled in television.

Page died at the Seacrest Village nursing home in Encinitas, Calif.

The Grammy Awards will honor Page, along with other artists -- including Carole King and the late Ravi Shankar -- with lifetime achievement awards at the ceremony Feb. 10.

Born Clara Ann Fowler in Oklahoma, she was the second of 11 children and told the New York Times she remembered living without electricity. She began singing on local radio as a teenager and was given her stage name because a sponsor of that show was the Page Milk Company.

The biggest hit of her career, "Tennessee Waltz," about an old friend who steals the singer's lover while dancing, was No.1 for nine weeks in 1950 and 1951 and is one of seven official state songs for Tennessee.

"How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?" was No.1 for eight weeks in 1953. In 2009, Page recorded a version using the same tune and different lyrics, called "Do You See That Doggie in the Shelter?" and gave the rights to the song to the Humane Society of the United States.

"The original song asks the question: 'How much is that doggie in the window?' " Page told the Humane Society. "Today, the answer is 'too much.' And I don't just mean the price tag on the puppies in pet stores. The real cost is in the suffering of the mother dogs back at the puppy mill. That's where most pet store puppies come from. And that kind of cruelty is too high a price to pay."

She also sang the theme to the 1964 Bette Davis thriller "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte," which reached No. 8 on the charts.

Page's other hits included "Old Cape Cod," "With My Eyes Open Wide, I'm Dreaming" and "I Went to Your Wedding." Her friends included Rosemary Clooney and Elvis Presley, and she attended the "Ed Sullivan Show" on the famed 1964 night when the Beatles were introduced to America. (Page thought they were "cute kids," The New York Times reported.)

She also had numerous television specials and series, including "The Patti Page Show," which ran for just one season in 1955-1956, and "The Patti Page Oldsmobile Show" in 1958-1959.

"What I like about singing is that, for me, it's a substitute for the psychiatrist's couch," Page told The New York Times in 2003. "I can tell it all in song: pathos, gladness, love, joy, unhappiness. Each song, you're telling a story and acting."

Her music was sometimes criticized for its simplicity, but Page knew what the audiences of the 1950s wanted.

"My music was called plastic, antiseptic, placid," she told The Times. "It was only five or so years after the war, a different time. A simpler time. The music was simpler, too."

She was married three times and had a son and a daughter.

  • Jennifer Lawrence: Acting is 'stupid'

Ellen Von Unwerth / Vanity Fair

In what could be a case of biting the hand that feeds you, actress Jennifer Lawrence has some frank opinions to share about her craft. "Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid," Lawrence tells Vanity Fair in their February issue. "Everybody’s like, 'How can you remain with a level head?' And I’m like, 'Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.'"

Lawrence, who described herself in the piece as "vastly uneducated" -- she did not attend high school -- goes into greater detail about why she decided on her "stupid" profession.

The "Hunger Games" star recalls the first time she ever read a script (for a commercial audition), and knowing then that acting is what she wanted to do.

"This is the first time I’ve ever understood anything. I was 14. And my brothers were star athletes. And one of them was a straight-A student," she told Vanity Fair. "I always felt like I sucked at everything, that I could never find the thing that I liked. I auditioned and I probably sucked, but I had decided 100 percent that this is what I wanted to do."

One thing is certain: despite how Lawrence thinks she did on that audition, she's got chops now. Lawrence is nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook." In 2011, she received both Globe and Oscar nominations for her role in "Winter's Bone."

  • 'Sister Wives' husband Kody Brown: 'My wives are free to leave' me

    Kyle Christy / TLC

The Brown family, from left, Christine, Meri, Janelle, Robyn and Kody.

Before saying so long to 2012, the "Sister Wives" family said so long to the third season of their TLC reality show with the finale on Sunday night. The episode, like others before it this season, showcased tensions between family man Kody Brown and one of his four wives -- this time wife No. 1, Meri.

It all started when Meri sat down to add the finishing touches to the plans for her new home. Kody warned Meri that she was already over budget before she even looked at carpet swatches, and that's all it took to leave her  teary-eyed and feeling as though her husband was judging her. The hubbub died down soon enough, but it seemed to cap off a trend.

Just a week earlier, Kody found himself on the wrong side of more than one wife when, during the course of a stressful family road trip, he announced that he wanted to be "obeyed." And before that, an episode focused on the distress of third wife Christine, who said she felt as though they were all "failing as a family."

Despite all of the drama, the group seemed solid in a post-season special that aired right after the finale. Still some fans might have been left wondering just how the polygamist family would handle it if the bad times became more than the Browns could bear.

In an interview with The Clicker earlier in the season, Kody Brown explained that their plural marriage is similar to any other marriage in that all of his wives are free to go if they want to.

"We chose to be married," he said. "Nobody forced us to do this, and we choose to stay in it out of love and commitment. Just like any marriage. I hate to say it, because I don't like divorce -- nobody likes that -- but my wives are free to leave, if they make that choice."

But relationship woes that come and go aside, leaving isn't a choice he expects any of them to make.

"Each one of my wives is a strong and independent woman, and essentially could have a good relationship with the man of their choice," Kody told The Clicker. "They just are in this relationship with me. And we have chosen to be a family out of love, out of devotion, out of faith."

  • 'Django's' Samuel L. Jackson won't discuss word that critic can't say

"Django Unchained" has five Golden Globe nominations (best picture, two best supporting actor nods, best director and screenplay) but the film continues to deal with some controversy thanks to its prolific use of a racial slur.

Film critic Jake Hamilton sat down with Samuel L. Jackson, who has a leading role in "Django," and attempted to broach the subject without actually using the N-word. "There's been a lot of controversy surrounding the usage of the N-word in this movie," Hamilton asked. Jackson stopped him right there. "No? Nobody? None? ... We're not going to have this conversation unless you say it,"  he said to Hamilton, who ultimately refused.

The exchange comes during this lengthy interview video which also features director Quentin Tarantino and cast members Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington and Christoph Waltz. Fast forward to the 13:55 mark for Jackson.

It's an interesting approach to not talking about something everyone is talking about. (Gawker originally pointed out the Hamilton/Jackson interview; for a recap of the controversy itself, check out this piece by Slate).

Ultimately, the language and Tarantino's raw approach to the film is not having a negative effect on the film's performance at the box office. "Django Unchained" has made more than $68 million since opening Dec. 25. During opening weekend itself, "Django" made $30 million and took the No. 2 spot. "The Hobbit" barely edged it out for No. 1 ($31 million), and "Les Miserables" was No. 3, with $27 million.

  • Beatboxing teen displays big bass in viral video

It's rare these days to hear a musician do anything vocally without realizing that Auto-Tune or some sort of electronic filter has altered the singer's true voice. That makes this video of Belgian beatboxer BigBen all the more impressive.

You don't have to be a fan of electronic music or dubstep or hip-hop or any other musical genre that might sample beatbox elements to be wowed by the noise coming out of BigBen. The 19-year-old says in his video description that he's been beatboxing since he was 3 1/2 ... and that he ate pasta the day before this performance, for what that's worth.

The depth of the bass is surely what's attracting viewers to his YouTube clips. You can almost imagine the sound rattling the windows of a car with way too much bump in the trunk.

If you're new to beatbox, most of what you need to know about its history can be linked to the name Doug E. Fresh. It's fun to watch his 27-year-old video after watching BigBen do his thing.

  • Green Day announce return to touring in March

    © Steve Marcus / Reuters / REUTERS

    Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong.

The members of Green Day said on Monday they will return to the road in March after the punk rock band canceled its fall club tour and postponed later dates as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong underwent treatment for substance abuse.

"We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," the band members said in a statement on their website. "We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."

Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist for the Grammy-winning rock band, sought substance abuse treatment in September following an angry, guitar-smashing on-stage outburst in Las Vegas. The details of his addiction were never specified.

Armstrong, 40, added to the website posting with a note on Instagram, saying:

"Dear friends ... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family.

"I'm getting better every day," he said. "So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger."

The tour will begin in Chicago on March 28, with dates in Pittsburgh, New York, Toronto and other cities up through April 12 in Quebec City.

The band said it would announce additional West Coast dates in early 2013.

Tickets for the postponed shows will be honored at the new dates, Green Day said. Tickets for canceled shows will be refunded at the point of purchase.

In November the band moved up the release date of "iTré!," part of an ambitious trilogy of albums that marks their first collection of new music since 2009, to December 11 from its original date of January 15, in part to make up for the canceled and postponed dates.

The California-based punk rock band, formed in the late 1980s, has sold more than 65 million records worldwide and won five Grammys, including best alternative album for its 1994 major-label debut, "Dookie," and best rock album for "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown."

  • 'Teen Mom 2's' Jenelle Evans reunites with husband after fight, divorce talk

    MTV

    Jenelle Evans.

The whirlwind marriage between "Teen Mom 2's" Jenelle Evans and her husband of less than a month, Courtland Rogers, appeared to come to end as quickly as it started earlier this week, but take heart -- it's back on!

Yes, after a major meltdown led to a Twitter war between the spouses, complete with declarations of getting divorced, being single and host of he-said-she-said claims, the two are back together and now wondering why anyone would doubt their true love.

"Jenelle and I are happily married," Courtland wrote in a New Year's Day tweet. "I don't know why the news said we were officially getting a divorce when clearly we are together lol."

    Clearly.

Despite the fact that on Sunday, he wrote that "Jenelle said she was gonna make up charges saying I beat her and i never did, so that just made me say (expletive) jenelle for good," he now claims there was never any trouble.

"For the record I never broke up with jenelle," he told his followers on Tuesday. "We took a day break with our families to enjoy time with them. I love her with all my heart."

As for Jenelle, she gave up on her post-fight decision to deactivate her Twitter account and explained just why she thinks the break-up story took off, and it has nothing to do with all of the direct quotes from her and her off-again-on-again hubby.

Instead, it's just "becuz of (Courtland's) ex/baby mama," who Jenelle believed he spoke to just before the big blowout.

  • Justin Bieber calls for paparazzi laws after photographer dies trying to get a $100 shot

Police in Los Angeles are investigating the death of a photographer who was hit by a car while trying to take pictures of a white Ferrari owned by pop star Justin Bieber. TODAY's Willie Geist reports.

Pop superstar Justin Bieber called for a crackdown on paparazzi Wednesday after a photographer was killed as he tried to shoot pictures of Bieber's white Ferrari in Los Angeles — pictures that a veteran photographer said probably would have been worth no more than $100.

The photographer, a man in his late 20s whom police wouldn't identify until they can notify his next of kin, was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center shortly after he was run over by a passing motorist about 5:30 p.m. local time Tuesday, police said.

Authorities confirmed that Bieber, 18, wasn't in the Ferrari. It was being driven by a friend, whom they wouldn't identify, and it wasn't involved in the accident, police said.

    DCNYRE2013 - Getty Images

Justin Bieber wasn't in the car at the time of Tuesday's incident, police said.

David Allocca, who's photographed celebrities for many years, told NBC News that even if Bieber had been in the car, any shot the man took would likely have been worth little.

"A plain photo of Bieber in his car? Probably around $100, not more than $500," said Allocca, who's photographed Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Nicole Kidman and both Presidents Bush in a 30-year career. "I can guarantee that."

The incident took place after a California Highway Patrol officer flagged the Ferrari for speeding on the northbound lanes of Interstate 405, said Madeline Nightingale, watch commander of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Bureau. The car then exited at Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive, she told NBC News.

During the traffic stop, the photographer crossed the busy Sepulveda thoroughfare, which runs parallel to the 405, and tried to shoot photos of the vehicle's occupants from a perch on the narrow divider, she said.

The Highway Patrol officer on the scene repeatedly warned the man that his position was dangerous, she said. The man was then struck by a car traveling southbound on Sepulveda, Nightingale said.

No charges were expected to be filed against the motorist, who stopped and tried to administer assistance, Nightingale told NBC News. The driver was a woman with two young children in the vehicle, Nightingale said.

Thibault Mauvilain, a celebrity photographer who went to the scene of Tuesday's accident, told reporters that he knew the photographer who was killed.

"He always played by the rules. I'm not aware of him doing anything illegal," Mauvilain said, according to NBC 4 of Los Angeles.

NBC Los Angeles: Man killed attempting to photograph Justin Bieber's Ferrari

"Some people will say he's just another crazy paparazzo trying to make the money. Actually, he was not a paparazzo. He was just another kid from New Mexico."

'Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation'
In a statement Wednesday, Bieber said: "While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim."

Justin Bieber is the most Googled person on Earth. The pop star started as a viral sensation. He and his manager, Scooter Braun, discussed Bieber's journey and his future with Ryan Seacrest.

He added: "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves."

Justin Bieber tosses water bottle at Miami paparazzi

In fact, California has such a law. In 2010, the state cracked down on paparazzi, adding extra penalties for photographers who drive dangerously in pursuit of pictures they intend to sell.

But in November — in a case also involving a photographer who was hoping to get pictures of Bieber at a traffic stop — a Superior Court judge refused to apply it, saying it was unconstitutional.

Los Angeles City Council member Dennis Zine — who witnessed a previous paparazzi pursuit of Bieber in July, which ended with a photographer's being struck by a motorist — called on lawmakers Wednesday to give the law even more teeth.

"Unfortunately, the State law that passed in 2010 was not successful in a recent court case, so I would urge our State legislators to revisit the statute and make amendments in order to strengthen it and make it more effective," Zine, a Los Angeles reserve police officer, said in a statement.

The behavior of celebrity photographers has been widely denounced ever since 1997, when Princess Diana died in a French auto accident that was initially blamed on pursuing photographers. The wreck was subsequently blamed on Diana's driver.

The market value for many celebrity shots has fallen in recent years, Allocca said, and now it takes a "great photo" to earn big money.

"With Instagram, with Twitter, with cellphones — everyone's got a point-and-shoot, everyone's got a camera wherever you go," he said.

"If he had a joint in his mouth, maybe a million bucks, to somebody," Allocca said. "But no one outlet is paying that money. Magazines aren't the first to get it anymore. The Internet gets it."

But celebrities continue to get caught up in dangerous incidents involving paparazzi:

    • In June 2011, Tori Spelling backed her car into the wall of her children's school in Tarzana, Calif., as she was being pursued by a photographer.

"Wht will it take?" Spelling tweeted at the time. "Someone dying for paparazzi to stop?"

    • In October 2009, a car driven by Nicole Richie was rear-ended by a car carrying two photographers in Beverly Hills, Calif. The driver was arrested and found to have no driver's license.
    • The same month, Brad Pitt was riding a motorcycle in Los Angeles when a photographer trying to get a picture rear-ended the actor with his car. Pitt and the motorcycle fell over, but he was uninjured.
    • In 2010, a photographer claimed that he was badly injured when a car in which Lindsay Lohan was riding ran him over outside a Hollywood nightclub. The photographer sued Lohan in January 2011; Lohan asked a court to dismiss the suit last summer.
    • In June, Lohan was involved in another crash when her rented Porsche ran into a truck in Santa Monica, Calif., while allegedly fleeing a pack of chasing paparazzi.

Allocca said it was "stupid" that the photographer who was killed Tuesday died over a picture that eventually would have little value.

"All I can say is remember the New Kids on the Block. Remember Hanson," he said.

"Bieber will be there shortly as well."

Daniel Strieff of NBC News contributed to this report.
