401st Quartermaster Detachment provides hurricane relief to New York residents

Long Beach, N.Y., residents look on as the 401st Quartermaster Detachment,
316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), answers the call for help during relief efforts for storm-ravaged New York City. The 401st Quartermaster Detachment is one of three mobilizing tactical water distribution units to aid with hurricane relief efforts by pumping water from flooded areas that have impacted the local communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. Before deploying into the affected areas, teams from the 401st, 410th and 431st Quartermaster Detachments mobilized to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst,
N.J., where they received special clothing and equipment courtesy of the
99th Regional Support Command. This will be the first time that U.S. Army
Reserve soldiers have been activated for a domestic natural disaster under
the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which streamlined the
process for Federal Reserve forces to mobilize in support of relief efforts
within local communities.
