Fiscal Cliff Options

Knowing that the President and Senate Democrat leadership appear committed to a fiscal cliff proposal calling for trillions of dollars in tax increases that could jeopardize jobs and that falls about $5 trillion short of erasing the President's annual budget deficits, which of the following options would you prefer:* House Republicans should stand firm and demand the true spending reforms needed to get our fiscal house in order -- even if it means we go over the fiscal cliff on Jan. 1.
Just accept the out-of-balance plan offered by the President and Senate Democrat leaders this week that would include double the amount of tax hikes the President campaigned on and that adds billions in new spending on top of our nation's existing $16 trillion debt.
House Republicans should stand firm, demand true spending reforms but take the best offer possible even if it means raising taxes on small business owners and others before Jan. 1 because the country cannot afford to go over the fiscal cliff.
