Openings: BrisketTown, Williamsburg Pizza, Selamat Pagi and Xixa

BrisketTown (c/o Eater)

There are lots of great new places now open in the hood:

Selamat Pagi

From the NY Times:
Indonesian restaurants are scarce in New York, and this one specializes in the cuisine of Bali. The owners are the ice cream artisans Ben Van Leeuwen, Pete Van Leeuwen and Laura O’Neill, who had some storefront space at their production kitchen and decided to take their love of Bali to the public. Of course, their sweets are served. But before dessert, consider finishing your plate of lemon-grass fish curry, prawn and fish satay, bluefish caramelized with palm sugar, and nasi goreng (a type of fried rice). The chef, Sophia Loch, came from Otto. The pastry chef, Chelsea Wilkes, from Marlow & Sons, is whipping up a Balinese coconut crème brûlée

Williamsburg Pizza:

From Serious Eats:
The pizza was really good: housemade or Grande mozz on the slices, sweet canned San Marzanos strained as the sauce, and an old school NYC slice crust that had a crisp veneer and tender insides, with plenty of color and bubbles to boot…. We [also] had a grandma slice, a regular slice, a slice with apples, gorgonzola, and a rectangular slice with mushrooms and fresh rosemary. None were less than very good, and it’s clear that Coniglio has the chops and the desire to make terrific slices pizza born out of NYC slice tradition at its finest.

Tonight: Brooklyn Night Bazaar Continues

There will be shopping, bands, and best of all an outpost by buzz restaurant Pok Pok NY:

Inspired by the night markets across Asia, Brooklyn Night Bazaar will bring together more than 200 of the borough’s most creative independent vendors, musicians, chefs, artists, breweries and wineries. Every Friday and Saturday night, for 5 consecutive weekends starting November 23 through December 22nd, 2012, this combined night market, art fair, food festival and concert series will return to its December 2011 home. The Night Bazaar will be held at 45 N. 5th Street, between Kent and Wythe Avenues, a massive 40,000 square foot warehouse in the heart of Williamsburg.

Last year, Brooklyn Night Bazaar presented music from various artists, including James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), YACHT, The Hold Steady, Fucked Up, Titus Andronicus and many more. This year, a host of media, music blogs and record labels will take the reigns of music curation, including Fader, Bust Magazine, Hype Machine, The Deli Magazine, Insound, Kanine Records, FatCat Record and Impose. We are pleased to announce the Bazaar’s 2012 lineup, including Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Black Dice, MEN (feat JD Samson of Le Tigre), Ayshay (Fatima Al Quadiri), French Horn Rebellion, Pictureplane, Emily Wells, Devin, and more TBA. The entire Bazaar will be free to the public. The organizers of Nuit Blanche New York (NBNY) will build upon NBNY’s recent pop-up performance venue The Autumn Bowl to art direct the Bazaar with a series of sound reactive light installations, electroluminescent wire, immersive cinema and an interactive searchlight installation.

Dates/Time: Friday and Saturday Nights, November 23 – December 22, 6 PM to Midnight. Location: 45 N. 5th Street, Williamsburg (btw Kent and Wythe Aves.) near Bedford L subway.

Captured live: Fabian Akilles @ Spike Hill

Fabian Akilles is another performer who made his way from Philly to show Brooklyn what he’s all about. Fabian and Dewey Decibel split thier set at Spike Hill during our “It’s A Rap” showcase. For the most part the entire night was hip hop but Fabian came with some Reggae vibes. Me and my boy Kevon particularly enjoyed his stuff because we’re both island(Antiguan) babies. After the set we felt like it was mandatory that we slide out of Spike Hill for a quick Bob Marley session if you feel my drift. Enough talking, lets get into it. Enjoy!

PS: Who ever came up to me asking me questions while I was shooting this, thanks for that(I’m being sarcastic). Next time wait until in between songs. Or better yet, in between sets.

Captured live: Dewey Decibel @ Spike Hill

Up 3rd on blaqbook’s “It’s A Rap” showcase at Spike Hill was the Son of a Beach himself Dewey Decibel. Dewey made the trip from Philly with his homey Fabian Akilles to bless us with some fire. I loved this dudes energy. From our first introduction, to his set, to his departure he kind of gave off a happy have fun sort of vibe. Whenever an artist brings happiness to the table the crowd has no choice but smile and get into it. I have a few more clips from Dewey that will come up later this week with him and Fabian getting busy. For now, kick back and relax and get “High on Art”. Enjoy!

Captured live: Nicoroc @ Spike Hill

Nicoroc was the second performer on blaqbook’s “It’s A Rap” hip hop showcase. By the time Nicoroc’s set started Spike Hill was packed. Most of the people came specifically for him. People were in the crowd rapping word for word. Great set! Hopefully I’ll get to work with this guy in the future he kills it on stage. Any time the crowd goes crazy after every song you know you really did a stand up job. Enjoy!

Captured live: Astrosteezpcp @ Spike Hill

Don’t act like you haven’t missed me! Good to be back. Lets get on with it. I booked Astrosteezpcp AKA AstroSteez Pretty Cool Peasants for the first blaqbook hip hop showcase “It’s A Rap” November 14th. They made their way from Philadelphia straight from class to perform for us. I’m glad they did. These guys are definitely a group to keep your eyes on in the near future. Enjoy!

PS: They also dropped this track yesterday. Check it out.
