Check out this new Beach House song

Over the weekend, Beach House played Webster Hall with Papercuts. At the show, the dreamy Baltimore duo debuted a new song. As far as I know, the song is still untitled. But this song moves! Throughout their career, Beach House’s music has grown in terms of its dynamism and layered textures. This new track follows that same trajectory and is more upbeat and booty-shaking, while still maintaining their overall calm vibe. It is awesome.

Winterband: “Time to Die”

After a much too long hiatus, my favorite fundamentalist-hobo-prog rockers are back with a new single. There will be shredding.

If you’re not familiar… more shredding here.

Last Night Vol04: Sam Mickens’ Ecstatic Showband & Revue

Sam Mickens played the Silent Barn last night. Below is footage of him covering Bowie and a few of his own jams.

I Stand With Planned Parenthood

The House of Representatives voted to cut funding to Planned Parenthood.  In response, supporters all over the country have gathered to tell the GOP that the services offered by Planned Parenthood are more than necessary to promote woman’s rights and physical health. Planned Parenthood offers everything from basic OBGYN exams to STI testing and cancer screenings, mammograms, and pap smears to women here and throughout the United States. As we reported earlier today, New Yorkers met at Foley Square to show their support for the organization, reproductive freedom, and public health,   To learn more, click here.

My favorite sign slogans at the rally:

“Republicans care about fetuses until they become women”

“Laissez faire my uterus”

“Giving up

On

Prevention. ”

“Get your Boehner out of my Vagina”

Last Night Vol03: Cult of Youth / Nat Baldwin

Cult of Youth played a record release show last night at Secret Project Robot’s Monster Island Basement. Video of that is below, including a live debut of a new and yet untitled song. Before Cult of Youth we checked out Todd P’s event at 285 Kent, featuring the likes of Nat Baldwin and Talk Normal. Unfortunately we had to bail before Liturgy took the stage, so there’s only video of Nat and Talk Normal.

This Saturday: Stand Up for Women’s Health

Don’t miss this important rally… and did we mention The Mountain Goats and Kathleen Hanna will be there!

On Saturday, February 26, celebrities, elected officials, musicians and women’s health leaders will join thousands of New Yorkers in Foley Square to rally and stand up for women’s health.

The rally comes on the heels of last Friday’s passage of the Pence Amendment, a dangerous piece of legislation which, if made into law, would eliminate basic health care and education services for millions of Americans – and according to Department of Health estimates, 800,000 New Yorkers. This Saturday, thousands from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, along with celebrities, musicians, non-profit organizations, and elected officials, will stand up for women’s health, and encourage Senators to reject the Pence amendment, and send a clear message to members of Congress that attacks on women’s health are attacks on all of us.

WHAT: Rally to Protect Women’s Health

WHERE: Foley Square, across from the Court House in Lower Manhattan
Between Lafayette St. & Centre St.
New York, NY 10007

Growing Tobacco in Brooklyn

Move over rollies. New trend: growies. Apparently the new hotness is growing your own tobacco. As an act of rebellion against the government taxing cigarettes, Brooklyn residents are growing their own plants in their own backyards.

“They’re using the power of taxation to coerce behavior. That’s not what taxation is supposed to be for,” Audrey Silk, a tobacco-grower in Marine Park told New York Times.
Let’s be real, this is probably as much about taxation as it is about rebelling against Camel’s exploitation of Williamsburg. Read the rest over at the New York Times. Tomacco!

Tonight: Idiot Glee at Glasslands

Back in late 2010, we shot this video of Idiot Glee, AKA James Friley, playing “All Packed up” at Glasslands.  Peep the video above, check out another video on Big Ass Lens, and drop on by Glasslands tonight, where he goes on at 8:30.

The Lowest Rated Movies in the Netflix Categories I’m Least Likely to Watch

Because we’re all addicted to Netflix:

CATEGORY: Goofy + Buddies & Gal Pals
FILM: Sex Pot
YEAR: 2009
NETFLIX SUMMARY: “[A] raunchy comedy about two wannabe Don Juans who have no luck with the ladies. That is, until the pair happens upon a stash of pot that the honeys find an irresistible turn-on. If breast-baring babes and killer weed are among your interests, then this sex- and smoke-filled romp is the film for you.”
HELPFUL USER REVIEW: “Any movie that’s cool with public masturbation is cool by me… Expect bizarre misconceptions of pot and stoners. A lot of little things (coitus with a donut, a girl rubbing gorilla dung on her chest, the fact that the car on the poster is never in the movie) make this one a favorite of mine.”

LCD Muppetsystem

Everyone is talking about LCD Soundsystem lately. You know, the whole selling out Madison Square Garden and taking on scalpers selling tickets for thousands of dollars. Then there’s the more recent announcement of additional Terminal 5 shows being added.

So what do people love as much as they love LCD Soundsystem? MUPPETS! With the previous “New York I Love You” video being so amazing, it makes sense that there are more Muppet/James Murphy mashups. Everyone in this video for “Dance Yrself Clean” is just so happy, and it is contagious.
