Eat The Dinner That Your Mother Never Let You Have

On January 16th, Williamsburg’s very own Momofuku Milk Bar will be hosting “Death by Dessert,” a multi-course, sugar-packed “pop-up dinner” that is sure to make the fat kid in all of us scream with joy. All you need is a sweet tooth and $125 to gain access to this cavity-inducing feast served up by a group of celebrated pastry chefs including Michael Laiskonis from Le Bernadin and Momofuku’s own Christina Tosi. The night starts with a reception of “passed savory canapés” and then moves into the kitchen for an intimate dinner consisting of two dessert dishes created by each of the six featured chefs that will incorporate “their personal favorite ingredients, techniques and ideas.”

Sure, $125 is a little steep for one night of stuffing your face with dessert, but the whole shebang is for a good cause. Net proceeds go to Share our Strength, a wonderful group that works to fight child hunger in America (oh, the irony!). And you know what they say- life’s too short not to eat artisanal desserts in mass quantities. Why not indulge a little now before the metabolism drops and the diabetes kicks in?

Dessert lovers and big spenders can reserve their spots here, but note that space is VERY limited.

Show Alert- The Suzan at Big Snow Buffalo Lodge 12/22

Fools Gold Records

Japanese girls are notorious for being wild amongst other asians. Heck, perhaps this applies universally. Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn are four crazy japanese girls with a tropical pop band. They call themselves The Suzan and I call them my favorite girl force. Get a taste of their music through the wacky visuals below.

peelander-z as amazing as you would think

BrooklynVegan just posted a video of Japanese band, Peelander-Z, during their stay in Brooklyn over CMJ. Peelander-Z are pretty much exactly what you would expect from a band that has the “word” Peelander in their name – Amazing. They had me at, “My name is Peelander Yellow. I love your mum. I love your father. I love your grandmum.” BV explains, “The video was filmed on North 6th Street in Brooklyn not long after they played an insane set at the free BrooklynVegan party inside Public Assembly.”

LEGO Rings- Yay or Nay?

Tiny Stitches

Back in October, I met one of the most iconic indie rockers during CMJ. This would be the handsome man behind Mister Heavenly and IslandsNick Thorburn. My meeting with him was strictly business and before gazing deep into his eyes, I was captivated by this little piece of plastic around his finger. Then as he motioned his hand, I noticed it was a white LEGO ring.

That was my first stumble upon this toy/accessory and on my second, I decided to personally own one. Still unsure if it’s the reason that Nick Thornburn has the same designer copy of the ring or how my childhood memories evolved around building LEGO forts, either way, I have fallen for this trend. Mine was $5 at the Brooklyn Flea which probably added to the desire of purchasing it. You can find high quality editions online or go cheap, and head to your nearest hipster flea market. These kind of creative crafts are always a hit in the DIY community but what are your thoughts, the trend of Lego Rings, Yay or Nay?

Click here for the Etsy links to these rings.
