UPCOMING: YACHT ROCK BOAT CRUISE with 33Hz + Them Jeans on August 5!

Just when you thought you were safe from people obnoxiously quoting Lonely Island lyrics from 2009…

WE’RE ON A BOAT! Or, at least, we will be!

Friday, August 5th, hop onboard the S.S. Yacht Rock Boat for a late-night cruise around the Isle of Manna-Hata (or “Manhattan”, as you kids call it these days) with special YACHT ROCK sets from DJs 33Hz and Them Jeans that are sure to make some waves…

Fucked Up, Cro Mags and others played House of Vans

Last night Cro-Mags, Fucked Up, Screaming Females and Pissed Jeans played a free admission show at House of Vans in Brooklyn. It was a dripping wet show all around, starting with a torrential downpour that hit a couple of thousand kids outside shortly before doors opened at 7pm. Once inside the drenched show goers were greeted by sauna like conditions. Condensation was dripping from the ceiling while a band had yet to set foot onto the stage. Corporate sponsorship or not, it was a kick ass Brooklyn style warehouse summer show. Personally, I take this over any sterile Bowery Presents event any day. Shit was raw and messy, the way these things need to be. Footage of Cro-Mags, Fucked Up and Pissed Jeans is below. Screaming Females we unfortunately missed as we had to grab a bite outside.

Watch Sufjan’s dance rehearsal

Lady Gaga. Justin Biber. Black Swan. Sufjan Stevens.

Vulture stopped by Sufjan Stevens’ dance studio to chat with him about his upcoming Prospect Park shows, dancing and being influenced by huge stage shows. (Think: What Would Beyoncé Do?)  The theatrical implements in his shows in the past have always been impressive and super fun, but after watching this video, I am so excited to see this show next week.

UPCOMING: PENT UP! WITH BEG TO DIFFER

Okay, okay, okay. We know that it’s hot and that sweating out half of your body weight kind of puts a damper on your chances of taking that fine chica (who is probably stuffing ice cubes in her underwear every time she runs to the bathroom) home. We get it.

That’s why we pulled some strings with the Weather Gods to make this Saturday’s PENT UP! a whole FIFTEEN DEGREES COOLER than last week’s. Don’t say we never did anything for you…

Riding high on the wave of last weekend’s launch, PENT UP! is back with electro-disco-rockers Beg To Differ spinning alongside resident DJs Stretch Armstrong, Dominique Keegan, and The DKDS.

As always, there will be cheap drinks, a killer view, and fun times from 5 to 4 (PM to AM, that is…).

Hella Bitter Seltzer Cart

There are apparently still unexplored frontiers in the mobile food movement.

Benjamin Harrison is trying to fund a bitter-infused seltzer drinks cart, which would be serving up drinks in the ‘burg. Since you guys liked his last kickstarter so much, maybe a local source out on the streets would take it to the next level. They plan to have the cart out by mid-August, if its funded.

Sexy New Rewards Single “Equal Dreams” Features Solange Knowles

Aaron Pfenning no doubt knows how to churn out synth heavy dreams, you know, being a founding member of that little Brooklyn band called Chairlift and all. But under moniker Rewards, Pfenning’s synth takes a turn from the drearier variety to an up-tempo worthy of rubbing bodies together.

To be frank, each track has that reverberating quality that is nicely paired with a sexual partner and the newest single “Equal Dreams” is no exception.

With the addition of Solange Knowles’ yearning “am I everything you always wanted” cry to Aaron’s breathy bellow, we’ve made a promise to ourselves to play this on repeat… with a stranger from Union Pool or, well, dancing on our own.

Good Vibrations Truck Tour Titillates Williamsburg Tonight

image c/o Trojan Facebook page

Sidling up all sexy and shit to the waterfront food trucks tonight will be Trojan’s Good Vibrations Truck.

The tour which kicked off with a Midtown “nooner” yesterday is a new campaign to dispense sexual health do-gooding and promote the new Trojan Vibrating Twister – Trojan’s most powerful vibrator to date! Holla!

Sexual health expert Dr. Logan Levkoff and brand spokespeople will display the new product, talk about the mainstreaming of vibrators and share interesting data on usage and purchase in the US.  In addition, there will be free samples (condoms) and giveaways (sex instruments).

[Now insert a really good orgasm joke that was already taken by the other blogs. Blerg.]

The Good Vibrations Truck hits the Williamsburg Waterfront from 8pm to 10pm tonight, July 29.  And, well, face it – you might as well have a back-up plan when you fail at that last call scramble at Union Pool.

Animation Block Party 2011

The Animation Block Party 2011 kicks off its eighth year today right in our hood!

Tonight, Rooftop Films will host outdoor screenings at Automotive High, located at 50 Bedford Ave and N. 13th. Doors open at 8pm for live music and cartoons start around 9pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance. And in the event of rain (cuz it lookin’ kinda thunderstormy), screenings will simply go indoors.

After your first day of cartoon fun, kick back with some free beer courtesy of Radeberger at tonight’s after party at Matchless, located at 557 Manhattan Avenue.

Alas, the festival then moves further down the borough to BAMcinématek (Peter Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Avenue) for its Saturday and Sunday run. But with award winning independent shorts, studio animation and a first ever FREE animation trade show and art gallery exhibition, it’s totally worth waiting for the G.

For more information and a complete schedule, visit Animation Block Party 2011.
