Rock Beach is real!

Jelly are taking the summer party vibe to Rockaway Beach. Formerly behind the Pool Parties and Rock Yard, this year we get ROCK BEACH!

We’re pretty happy with this lineup, and obviously really excited that we have a place to slip-n-slide. Check out this teaser video below, and head to their site to RSVP, listen to a Rock Beach playlist, and enter to win free bus tickets to the party.

Rock Beach teaser after the jump.

Ted Leo playing Tyranny of Distance at 4Knots

Since Ted Leo and the Pharmacists were announced as the headlining act for the kick off show at 4Knots, the fest has been somewhat redeemed in our eyes. And in the time since the announcement there has been some great news to add to this. First: Screaming Females will be opening for The Pharmacists, which makes sense and will make the show even awesomer. And now: Ted Leo will be playing their decade-old record The Tyranny of Distance in full.

I have mixed feelings on bands playing “classic” albums in full at festivals. It has become sort of an easy gimmick for bands to fall back on. But! With this (as with most things) Leo seems to have a pretty solid grasp on the real world and what this decision means.

This is not a big nostalgia trip!
We’re not doing it to place this in some sort of “classic albums” necropolis! We’ve been mostly on tour for the entire ten years since this album came out, and rarely has a night gone by that we haven’t played at least a few songs from it – it’s as alive to us now as it was when it was first released!
We (or “I”) have never “broken up” and moved on to other things, so we’re not getting back together to celebrate “what was” – this is and always has been our life, and we’re celebrating a milestone in that life!
This is not a “victory lap!”
Not the time to take a bow – there’s more work to do, and we have tours upon tours upon tours still ahead of us!

He goes on to say that this appearance at the South Street Seaport will be the 10th year in a row that he has done a free outdoor summer show in New York City. What an awesome guy!

New Of Montreal Video- “L’age D’or”

For you non-french speakers, the title of Of Montreal’s new song, “L’age d’or,” translates to “The Golden Age.” Though it’s not clear what the first single off the band’s thecontrollersphere EP is referring to, if it’s the amount of glitter used in their videos and live shows, then that sounds about right.
Their new video, featuring a camera shy Kevin Barnes and several face-painted females, is made up of fast moving, spliced images shot in day-glo color. At times the images are so bright it almost make your eyes hurt, but in typical Of Montreal fashion, the video is so mysterious and visually dynamic that it’s too hard to look away.

Barnes will be DJing at Brooklyn Bowl next month on August 6th under the pseudo-name DJ List Christee.

Village Voice Union Benefit Tonight at Public Assembly

Tonight Public Assembly will play host to the Village Voice’s Union Benefit– a concert geared toward raising money in the event that they go on strike this weekend.  According to the Voice:

“We have a union at the Village Voice that’s been around since the ’70s. Our three-year contract is up at the end of the month, June 30. After decimating the staff, management is trying to slash our healthcare and retirement benefits. We’re really hoping that it doesn’t come to a strike, but there’s a distinct possibility.”

Things will kick off tonight at 8pm with Alan Watts, an industrially noisey darkwave crew out of Brooklyn.  Local “no goodniks” (as the Voice aptly donned them) K-Holes will play as well followed by the Free Williamsburg approved Fort Lean. Also there will be a special PitchforkReviewsReviews DJ set– a great show for a great cause!  Suggested donation at the door is $10 and you can also donate via pay pal.  Get our there and support writers and print media!

Eat Drink Local Week Ends Tomorrow

image c/o Edible Manhattan

A friendly reminder that the 3rd Annual Eat Drink Local Week is ending soon. Since June 24, Edible magazines and local foodies have been offering several events, from wine tasting to cooking demonstrations to cocktail ‘sips.’

In addition, restaurants are showcasing special prix fixe meals and New York wine, beer or spirits.

While you should definitely venture into Manhattan and Long Island for the deals, Edible Brooklyn is also bringing the deliciousness within walking distance. Participating Williamsburg restaurants include Carino, Dressler, Egg, Radish and Rye.

Eat Drink Local Week ends on June 30 (tomorrow!), so get your yummy on ASAP.

The Most Blogged About Shows Of The Week

No Age (via losanjealous.com)

This is a Brooklyn-heavy week led by a FREE (with RSVP) show at the House of Vans. We made it to Spectrum for the first of their parties and enjoyed the free drinks and great show. Were you one of the lucky few who got tickets for Panda Bear at Music Hall? We hope so, as their will-call-only policy puts a damper on what will be available on Craigslist.

Be sure to check out the shows going on sale this week, listed below. Stone Temple Pilots should round out the paid shows for this season at the Williamsburg Waterfront. You also don’t want to miss The Rapture tickets! Without further ado, here are our Top 10 Shows for the next seven days.

About this post: My Social List is happy to partner with Freewilliamsburg to bring you the next seven days’ most buzzed-about New York shows, as well as new shows going on sale this week. New M83 Teaser

From Wikipedia

Currently, Gonzalez is working on a new batch of songs for an album slated for a 2011 release. He describes the tracks as darker and “very, very, very epic”. Speaking with NME, he said of the new album “It’s a double album. It’s mainly about dreams, how every one is different, how you dream differently when you’re a kid, a teenager, or an adult. I’m really proud of it. If you’re doing a very long album, all the songs need to be different and I think I’ve done that with this one.” He plans on recording again with Morgan Kibby as well as others, including Beck, Nine Inch Nails bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Zola Jesus.

We can’t wait to hear more!

Hey guys! We’re still free from colonial power. Sorry US-installed puppet regimes and imperialist satellites we call “territories.”

This is awkward.

ANYWAYS, next weekend is our favorite (and only) summer holiday – the Fourth of July. So here are some picks on where you should shake that sexy freedom all week long.

Featured pick is a four-day electro dance party because dance parties are so United States right now:
