Washington D.C. – Congressman John Tierney released the following statement today in response to President Obama's new gun control reform proposals.

"President Obama is right to press for immediate action on gun control reform. The American people continue to grieve the loss of those 20 children killed in Connecticut and to struggle with the gun violence that occurs in our cities and towns every day. Congress must move a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence and protect our children and families. I applaud President Obama's efforts and urge Speaker Boehner to support common sense proposals such as banning assault weapons, expanding background checks and cracking down on gun trafficking. Along with the mothers and fathers in my community and nationwide, I continue to stand firm in my commitment to make our streets, our schools, and our children safer from gun violence," Congressman Tierney said.

Congressman Tierney recently wrote an article on the need for gun control reform, which can be found here.
