About the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)

NCTE is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education and offers its members a wide range of professional development opportunities.

More than 500,000 teachers are logging onto NCTE resources each month. If your focus is on early literacy, writing or reading instruction, assessment, or preparing your students for standardized tests without "teaching to the test," NCTE has the right tools and publications to help you-and your students.

NCTE Benefits

Join today, and for less than $1 a week you will receive:

  • Fresh approaches to meeting the challenges in your classrooms through peer-reviewed journals, local and national meetings, the most-visited website for K–12 lessons and student materials (readwritethink.org), and flexible, affordable, and convenient professional development.
  • Resources that keep you current on key education news and trends. Resources such as NCTE's weekly INBOX online newsletter connect what's happening in the world to what's happening in your classroom.
  • A conduit to help shape the policy that affects your work. Through Action Alerts, policy briefs and reports, and our Affiliate Network, we support members raising awareness of the issues—local, state, and federal—and sharing their knowledge and expertise with policymakers, the media, and parents.
  • A meaningful and convenient way to help and support others. The NCTE Anti-Censorship Center helps educators with questions about plagiarism and intellectual property issues and provides advice, white papers, and other support at no cost to those faced with challenges to literary works, films and videos, drama productions, or teaching methods.
  • Exclusive member discounts up to 40% on more than 300 books, NCTE's awardwinning, peer-reviewed professional journals (online version free with print subscriptions), and many other professional development resources, including NCTE conventions and conferences!
  • Joining NCTE as a green member allows you to make a long-term impact on the environment by receiving online versions of journal subscriptions, online renewal reminders, and continued online access to our growing list of member-only access areas.

Join NCTE today to engage with your membership and get involved in a community or discussion!
