Congressman Larry Bucshon was at his Terre Haute office, answering questions and meeting with residents about what the future holds.
He says the federal government has got to get the budget under control, and that he will not support a debt ceiling increase unless their are also spending cuts made.
"If the debt ceiling is raised by a dollar, somewhere we have to cut spending by a dollar. And we have to get the country back on a trajectory so that we don't have to raise the debt ceiling in the future in unless there's a deal at least at that level or better I won't support it," said Rep. Bucshon.
Bucshon was also recently selected to serve as the chair person for research under the science, space and technology committee.
He says that his experience as a surgeon will help him make sure that the industries are continuing to grow, and that the country is making an impact across the globe.
"The world relies on the United States when it comes to healthcare research and development and so it's very important. And I think that we have always been a country that has led the world in innovation in health care and I think we'll continue to do that," said Rep. Bucshon.
The subcommittee for research will deal with all matters relating to science policy and science education.
