Rep. Napolitano's Statement on Colorado River Deal

Nov 27, 2012 Issues: Water

(Washington, D.C.) Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (CA-38) released the following statement on the recent agreement between the United States and Mexico on the Colorado River:

“The cooperation and agreement is welcome news to California,” Napolitano said. “It will help deal with the cycle of water shortages in the lower river basin states. This is a model for future water negotiations in the Colorado Basin and across the nation, showing how together we can solve these issues.”

The landmark deal, signed on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, will bring more water from the Colorado River to California and help Mexico conserve and develop its water resources. It also lays the foundation for additional conservation projects in Mexico.

Napolitano is the ranking member of the Water and Power Subcommittee on the House Natural Resources Committee.
