As Senator Bob Menendez Prepares To Become Chairman Of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Ros-Lehtinen Says He Is A Proven Leader & Defender of Human Rights Who Will Not Fear Confronting America’s Enemies

Jan 17, 2013

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, now serving as Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement on the expected announcement of Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“My dear friend and colleague Senator Bob Menendez would be an excellent choice for Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His proven leadership and knowledge of international issues will guide this important Senate committee in the right direction and help shape our nation’s foreign policy. Bob’s steadfast commitment to stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions and confronting the brutal Castro regime proves he is not afraid of taking on the tough issues nor does he fear confronting America’s enemies. These are both positive signs of things to come in the 113th Congress.

“Bob is well aware of the plight of those who have suffered and those who continue to suffer under the repressive rule of brutal regimes around the world. This understanding provides him with invaluable insight on the nature of the issues facing so many around the world who continue to be denied their basic freedoms. I look forward to continue working with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee under Bob’s leadership, and I wish him the very best.”
