In a defining moment in Miami-Dade County history, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa will be sworn in as the first Hispanic Chairwoman of the Board of County Commissioners. The installation ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013, where Commissioner Lynda Bell will also take the oath of office as Vice Chair of the Board. The ceremony is open to the public and will take place in the Commission Chambers of the Stephen P. Clark Center. Chairwoman Sosa and Vice Chair Bell were elected by their peers on November 20, 2012, to serve a two-year term commencing on January 1, 2013. Chairwoman Sosa has served on the Board of County Commissioners since 2001 representing the residents of District 6, which includes areas in the City of Miami, Coral Gables, West Miami, Hialeah and Miami Springs. Vice Chair Bell was elected in 2010 representing District 8, which includes the municipalities of Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and Homestead. Media outlets are invited to cover the installation ceremony.
