Chairman McCaul Statement on Terrorist Attack in Algeria

Jan 16, 2013 Issues: Counterterrorism

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding the developing hostage situation in Algeria.

Chairman McCaul: “The situation in Algeria demonstrates the continuing rise of Al Qaeda in North Africa and the seriousness of the threat it poses against the United States and the West. I am praying for the safety of the hostages and for their families. This region and other safe havens provide a launching pad for terrorists which will not only be used against our interests overseas, but eventually, as we have seen in the past, could be used to plan and launch attacks against our homeland.”
