Otis Redding wrote this song while living on a houseboat in Sausalito on the San Francisco Bay. We discovered the actual spot where Otis' housboat was berthed, and shot new Super8 footage from the spot for use in this video. Thanks to Anne Garfield, Joel Selvin and Bill Belmont. Otis recorded this song shortly before his tragic death. Steve Cropper finished production on the song after Otis' plane went down. Released posthumously, it was Otis' biggest hit ever. Enjoy!

It's such a shame that he died so young.

Yes luqz0r, Otis was the whistler. Story goes they left him a few second near the end of the song as Mr. Redding often liked to ad lib at that point. But in this case he couldn't think of anything so he just whistled his way out. Clever man he was...

This psycho troll Bruno Leicht (who used these same multiple accounts like 'snicker witz' and 'geissbockhennes' 'Thomas Steinfeld' etc etc) to try to shut down my Jazzwax blog - the way he did with Albert Haim and other succesfull jazz sites - is now spamming the Youtube links at my site.
Why doesn't this Bruno Leicht get some psychiatric help? There is no cure for his being a failure, but there may be coping skills he can learn.
