Keefe's work is predicated on connection, on using art to tell the story of the city. She has provided witness to two decades of Portland's evolution, both as a freelance photojournalist and through series such as the "Hello, Neighbor" project, in which she guided kids through interviewing and photographing their neighbors. Her work in African-American and other minority communities shows a side of Portland that some forget, former Mayor Sam Adams said.
